The guy I bought the car from said he put ARP head studs in. When I take the valve cover off tomorrow how will I be able to visually tell that they are, or are not, ARP's? What should they look like in comparison to the stock head bolts? Thanks!

GOOD NEWS!!!!!

Took the valve cover off and I DO have ARP studs! I checked the torque on them and got up to 105 ft-lbs and just said forget it. The guy I bought the car from must have torqued the shit out of them! I also did a comp test. BUT, first I have a question. About 8 months ago I did a comp test at my friends house with his gauge and we got 180 psi across the board (JE 9.0:1 Pistons). Today, we did another comp test w/ my new Pep Boys $50 comp tester and I got 195 psi solid across the board!!! GREAT!!!!!, I'm pretty sure. So needless to say I chalked it all up to a shitty stock cooling system (CHECK MY OTHER POSTS FOR A RUNDOWN ON THE SITUATION I'VE BEEN DEALING WITH). SO, I have ordered a Fluidyne radiator and a set of Spal High Performance fans. I also switched to a 180 deg. therm. So I guess we'll see!! I'll let everyone know how it goes! THANKS

Ok guys I am working on replacing my head gasket and I just want to make this totally clear for myself. What size allen wrench do i need? The manual says I need a 13mm and i hear from alot of people you need a 10mm. So which is it? Because i have my motor all torn down ready to take those bolts out and pop the head off. Manifolds out of the car, timing belt, water pump all off. But I have been endlessly searching for a 13mm allen wrench for like 3 days now. I want my baby back running again! Thanks for the help guys.

ok so I finally got my head off and heres what i found out. The head bolts were 8mm. And I dont remember what size the nuts were that held in the whole valves, springs, camshaft assembly. But it was something relatively small. (within the normal socket set range) But I dont remember it being 13mm.
Well, the head is off now to the machine shop to be rebuilt. Also my car is a 1.8L so im sure its probably different then the specs for the 2.0. But I think that the head bolts are 10mm for the 2.0 if anyone needs that info.
Hope I could help.

OK

ok,
I fiddled around with some allen wrenches and it seems that the outer head bolts (10 black) are 10mm but the inner head bolts (3 or 4 metal colored ones...cant remember exactly how many and I dont have the thing in front of me) are 13mm.

Seems I'm still on my search...
