HAS ANY ONE SHAVED THIER DOOR HANDLES OFF? IF SO WHAT POUND SOLINOIDS ARE GOOD FOR A 2G ECLIPSE?? OR WHERE CAN I GET A GOOD KIT TO DO THE JOB?? PRICES? ANY HELP OR PICS WOULD BE GREAT..... THANKZ
 
I'm sure 55lb poppers would open the door enough to get the door open, or for best meaasures you could get the 85lbs, but nothing less than 55lbs.

kool thankz but has anyone done this to their car and have they had any problems? and what solinoids did u use...i dont want my door not to be able to open and also i dont want my door to hit the car next to it...lol ..... thankz
 
I'm going to be doing this to my car in the near future and I am going to buy the 50lbs, sorry, thought they made stronger solenoids, as they are for every day use. They should only pop the door open, not swing it all the way out. I believe there is also a small spring loaded lever that prevents the door closing itself without the help of a full swing shut.
 
you should only need at most 35 lb ones.. i have a trunk release on mine not made for the door put it works just fine.. witha keyless entry system.. was 109.. install was free though..

but if u want to get the whole kit.. about 150 at autoloc will get you what you need b4 install..

and poppers dont swing your door open they will just pop the lock enough so you can pull it open.. doesnt swing the door open for you its not like a door man haha u guys are funny..
 
Evan- I noticed that you said you used only the 35's I believe the 2g doors are lighter because they don't have much of a frame for the door. My mom has an Avenger, which is basically a bigger version of the Eclipse but with a Dodge name, and the door is pretty light. I wouldn't know from personal experience, but you sound right, oh, and you still have one of the best looking 2gnt's I've ever seen man!
 
i got my poppers from Summit for like $90. their universal kit works just fine, i think it is 55lb. it came with poppers for both sides. it is a PITA to hook up, there is zero tolerance.

i also found that even the 55lb solenoids couldn't pull the stock metal rod from the latch to the inner door handle and i had to replace that rod w/ a brake cable from a bike so it would flex. works fine, very very few problems in 2 years. but every time the door pannel is off, i double check it!

note: i completely took out any locking mechanism that is in there to lighten it up, and i did NOT get the extra spring pushers to hold the door open. just the solenoid to pull the latch. has worked fine for me. the only problem i ever have is that once in a great while it won't work, & i have to push the button again. maybe just doesn't pull hard enough. but i know 3 other people w/ shaved handles and the same intermittent problem. you learn to live w/ it

cost me like 300 for just the shaving and smoothing. but it's absolutely flawless!! my friend worked at a body shop for 5 years, did his own, and now you can see where they used to be! i took mine to a guy that works on street-rods all day... he knows his shit! find someone who knows what they are doing, or you'll be able to see where they used to be!

Yeah, I have seen a lot of 2gNT's, the problem is they are either flo green or flo orange, or some other ghey color with a blitz front end and some vinyl graphics on the side with sponsors that I've never heard of. I like the lighter colors on our DSM's and you're kit isn't all played out. I know of the bad crack or ding n your front, I remembered reading about it. Plus the hood goes well with a light color to add a big contrast, but works really well with appearance. Keep bugging Chris to get the darn hood done :D and then to move on with the 90-91 hood :D. I like the car a lot man, can't wait to see what you have planned next for it.

i have lil door popper from Dakota Digital... cost me like 35 bucks for a set of two.....work just fine

door still hasnt swung open to hit another car =)

thanks turbo2.. sorry it took so long.. but i guess when i had them 2 pics in my sig it was too big..

then i put the old pic back in there.. the one i have had for a while..


and somehow that became too big i dont know.. so i tried ti again and i guess that was it.. i really wish they would have emailed me first and let me know instead of just not telling me..

haha.. so while im bored im going make that shell into a custom show only hood.. all the black u see will match the car and line up..

with all them holes in it..

and if chris slacks and doesnt make the other hood.. then im just going to buy a 6vent CF hood..

then when thats done.. just keep working to get my int right.. im about to bulid the sub and amp enclousure in the hatch finally.. since i have all the material..

then i got some guages on the way and building a custom fiberglass dash to house them..

and then the turbo fund starts up while im doing the lil things along the way....
 
shaved door handles

If you plan on driving yer car everyday i wouldn't get shaved door handles. i put my car into a lot of car shows and still have my door handles. it is because i have seen people spend so much money on shaving the door handles, then when they get pulled over and a cop sees it. BOOM!!! instant fix it ticket. you pay almost twice what you pay to put them back on. shaved door handles (at least in CA.) are illegal due to the fact if you get in to a car accident the rescue workers have no access to yer car. so they say. on top of that once you get the ticket you can't drive yer car till you fix it, if they catch yer car on the street and on the computer says you got that fix it ticket they will impound yer car. my car is a daily driven car that's why i don't have them shaved door handles. i think they are cool, just not worth the hassle... good luck.... i think thats a dumb law in CA.. i mean most cars nowadays have that crap where the door automaticaly lock.. so check it say i had door handles but my doors were locked.. u know some people do drive with thier handles locked..

umm so how is that going to help... i mean why not just break the window...

i know most tracks wont allow shaved door handles. but u can just crack the window if u really needed to....

no the hood didnt mess the paint up at all

Evan- Ouch man, hope to see the new pics up soon. Tell Chris he needs to make some 90-91 hoods :D I have a couple of ideas that I don't want stolen, so I won't list them here :p I need some sleep, friggin jet lag!!
