I was heading home on I-15 with my new BCS  and all of a sudden I see this LOW car in my rearview mirror, passing all these people. The guy is really flying. I'm going 80 and he flies past me at at least 120.

So I get the speed up, and catch up to him.

And  it's a SHELBY GT500!!!!!!!!!! It looked to me like a '66 or '67 (wasn't quite as big as a '69). It wasn't the exact same as the Shelby in GI60S, it had wire-enclosed taillights. The car was positively GORGEOUS. Wimbledon White (from what I could tell) w/ the blue racing stripe package, the Shelby trademark scoops (behind the side windows), and of course the 1-2-3 flashing taillight harness. It was a GORGEOUS car and it just sounded SOOOOOOOO nice.

So he eventually slows down to around 65 (the speed limit), and I can tell he's checking my car out as well (my wheel lights and neon stuff get a lot of looks). So I slip in the clutch and rev a little. He raises an eyebrow, and after a second, shrugs and revs back.

I give him the 3-2-1, and we both drop a gear and WOT.

WOW! I was in heaven just LISTENING to that exquisite car scream. I won a decent race (about 8 car lengths from 60-120). But hell, my car is almost 30 years newer than his.
We then gave each other the thumbs up as I took my exit and headed home.

God, I loved that car.

there's a dirty little bastard around here with one of the new series one shelby's. you wanna talk gorgeous? this thing is off the charts. silver with dual maroon stripes.

GM parts? Shelby? WTF The Engine is an Olds Aurora 4.0L block. However for the price of that car I doubt it has leftover GM anything in it.

that car is so damn hot. i would love to just see a real one. did he have the go-baby-go nitrous button? LOL, J/K ,,,,that was so cool though. Eleanor rules!

nice kill

yea those cars aren't that fast unless you really know what your doing with the engine. They are pretty and powerful, just not that fast. nice kill man.

Look at the heater and radio controls. Right out of plain 'ol GM car. The seating position is awful too,the damn pedals are to the left of center just a bit.

Neat looking and has the ponies (450hp-400ft lbs of torque).
0-60 in 3.7 secs and the 1/4 mile in 12.14@120mph as tested by MotorTrend. In the same test the Porsche 911 TT was quicker in the 1/4 as it ran a 11.92@116 thanks to it's AWD. (sound familiar;) ) The Dodge Viper ACR came in right behind the Shelby with a 12.19@119mph.
In the braking dept.,the Z06 Vette stopped from 60mph in 111ft and the Shelby was a distant 126ft. Even the Viper w/o ABS stopped 8 feet sooner. The same Vette matched it skid pad rating of .98 lateral Gs.
In the one mile acceleration test the the Shelby was king as it did a full standing start mile in 30.3 seconds:eek: while the Viper was right behind it with a 30.3 followed by the Porsche at 30.8 seconds.
The 0-100-0 test was not the Shelby's forte as it took almost a full second longer than the Porsche (14.2 vs 15.2) with the Viper and the Z06 in between.

The Shelby's neat but for the tested price of $195k (base price is $175k) I would rather take the Porsche for $114k and the Z06 for $50k and have over $10 for fun $$$,then I would have 2 cars that match the pretty much matches the performance of the Shelby and much more useable as daily drivers. (the shelby has no ABS,no trunk or even cupholders)
The Shelby is more of a race car than a street car but if you want exclusivity then buy one cause there's only 500 to go around.

Just not worth the price even if I was rich.

Plus for $5k I could make my DSM faster in the 1/4.
I'm being sarcastic, this seems to be the official DSM battle cry so I figured I would be the first to post it.:D

If you were rich enough that you could actually afford one, it being worth the price or not wouldn't even matter. I'd own one, along with my McLaren, F50, Diablo VT, GT2, etc etc. 'Bling bling lets buy another phat car today, I got 10 mil just sittin around'. ;)

Thank you for pointing that out. If I hear one more DSMer say that when talking about a Viper or what not, my head's gonna explode.

yea i agree there are better cars out there for its price and it does have its faults.

i think it was that same test you mentioned v8spankr where the thing lunched two clutches, or maybe it was another one.

the other thing to consider is the resale value, i mean a viper and a porsche will hold well as will a ferarri or a lambo, but they're all pretty available. these cars are rare and i'd be willing to bet that with old CS's name on them it'll sell for a huge price 40 years down the road just like the older cobras and shelby mustangs are now.
