Looks like the only problem for a FWD to achieve good times, is traction. Suppose you slap on some slicks, LSD, and all the goodies... in theory won't it be just as good as the AWD ones?

There's plenty of cars that have hit amazing times and are FWD. So i was just wondering if the same would apply our DSMs. Or is it that people just get the AWD because its easier?

Just wanna know if the FWDs can keep up with all those AWD in the quarter mile.

Come on now! This is another retarded thread that will only get out of hand very fast. Going fast is not an AWD versus FWD competition. Just go as fast as YOU can.

If a FWD DSM could get the same amount of traction that an "equally powered" (crank hp) AWD DSM could, the FWD would be much faster.

AWD is just easier. Yes if you had enough traction that you didn't spin your tires the FWD would be a quick little car. It would actually be able to beat a AWD, because it would have more power to the wheels and is also lighter.

Sorry i didn't mean to offend anyone or make it turn to a FWD vs AWD thread. It's just that people say right off the bat, get AWD if you want good 1/4 mi times. What if there's some people who get the FWD and have no way of gettin that AWD traction or those AWD 1/4 times?

People keep saying, FWD have ALOT of difficulty getting traction, so what if they were able to get that traction? Or is it that people just choose the AWD because its easier to launch and have all 4 tires grip instead of 2. Just want to know out of curiosity, didn't want to start up a typical AWD vs FWD thread.

If it is, or if it does get out of hand, please close it ASAP.

I know! It's just this debate has been beaten to death. Yes you can get wicked traction with FWD. It'll take some ingenuity and a different approach than AWD. But it can be done.

just get slicks, it will help a little, like all those imports that look weird cause they have bigass slicks up front, im used to seeing big slicks on the back, but if it helps, go right ahead.

If FWD had the same traction as AWD it would be AWD. For me the ultimate would be an AWD that's as light as a FWD. It seems that every drivetrain setup has its ups and downs.

This seems like a 'if David was as big as Goliath' questions.

Wait, I'm not a moderator.

ok, i can finally post on something that i have been reading about for the past week. man is there a lot of info on this site about awd vs fwd. infact, my wife ahs actually started getting pissed at me because i have been reading threads from this site for 2 months now. so, as a much better informed dsm'r, i think that the fwd platform would not be streetable if it had the same traction as an awd. a super stiff rear suspension, a welded diff, and slicks make for an illegal street setup as well as extremely rough experience, especially in IL where the roads are crap. correct me if im wrong as i have never ridden in such a car.
but theoretically, yeah, the fwd would kick some awd butt (parasitic hp loss, weight gain of 300, and the breakage of parts from 6k launches)
