Hey group, I've been having a problem with excessive shaking/vibrations at speeds over 50mph. I've already had the car (1990 AWD) aligned and tires balanced twice with no luck. Upon examining under the car I notice the front carrier bearing has some signs of deterioration. Can anyone who has had theirs replaced comment on before and after results? Also how hard would it be to perform this maintenance myself assuming this is my problem?

I'm sorry I don't have an answer, but I've got the same exact problem. I'm still searching for the cause as well. If I find anything I'll be sure to tell you.

Lobro joint?

I had a similar problem which ended up being a bad Lobro joint. The rubber boot had split spewing out all the greece. I ended up paying a shop to repair it.. but having done the rear carrier bearing myself a couple years after.. it's a pretty easy job. There is also a low buck repair kit if the joint is not completely fubarred.

BTW.. another cause of vibration could be a damaged U-joint or Driveshaft tube (I dented one once on another car and it vibrated like crazy).

Good luck!
