Get this.. Driving down the Post Rd. (4 lanes, 2 each way, traffic lights every ½ mile or so) with my bro, i see up coming in back of me TransAm lights.. He pulls up on side of me, it's a LS1 WS6.. Not sure what year, but 98 or newer.
He rolls down his window and beeps, I roll down mine. In a thick Italian accent, he goes "Want to run?" "Yeah I do!" I said.. He says "Follow me to Dunkin Doughnuts, I want to pick up my friend, he knows a good spot".
So I follow him. Long story short - we get to DD, and him and his friend come over to my car, ask what's done to it, i tell them.. His is a 6 speed with what he said "Like a computer chip" as his only mod.. Now I've been an F-body guy for like 3 years before I had my Talon, and I know that the 4th gens have to get re-programmed, not chipped. I just said "cool". Maybe he was embarrased he was stock, I don't know. His car was beautiful. It was that copper color. Awesome.
Anywayz, we get to the place, it's 2 lanes, woods on each side, perfectly straight, and about a ½ mile long. It's like a service road to a big construction site, so no one really uses it at night..
We line up, it's him & his buddy in his car, me and my bro in mine. He goes, let's go on the count of three, we clearified on what 3 was, and he began counting. Here's how it went:
1st race, launched at about 3,500-4k, I had him on the launch, and partway through second, he pulled on me when we hit in the high 50's. He wins
2nd race, launched at about 5k this time. I had him through 1st, through 2nd, but when I shifted into third, he pulled away. Gotta love those tall gears with the torque of the LS1.
3rd race, balls out, I slip it hard and fast at about 6k, take him hard through first, hard through second, shifted into third, and he couldn't pull on me. His nose was a tad behind my bumper.. When I hit my breaks at about 95, he went past.
Awesome races. I was damn proud of the Talon after the third one. The dude complimented me, and took my cell number to call me when him and his friends go racing. Cool guy.
That's my story, and I'm sticking with it.
PS- This is a pic I snapped while following him.. Didn't want to pull it out on side of him and look like a tart.
PPS- If you are a law official, "the place" I speak about above is really a sanctioned race track.
