Im using a set of these mounted on a set of crower connecting rods, the cylinder bores were machined .010 over from stock, pistons were build .0065 over leaving the required .0035 piston/wall gap that ROSS recommends, im also using their gapless rings with 4340 pins, I didnt experience any piston slap that others experience with JE or wiesco pistons, I let ross handle the ring groove locations, engine has 160miles on it so far, and all seems good.

Car runs cherry, compression when cold is around 150psi for 8:1 compression pistons, my car has 780 miles on it so far, it runs fine, no piston slap or anything, car is damn fast too :)

Who did your order those piston through? What was the price on those bad boys? I'm in the market for a set tomorrow, thanks for the info. -Ian

I ordered them directly through ross and gave them all the specs and designs that I wanted to be forged into the pistons, I think I paid around 800 for them.

Wowzers, you certainly have an awesome setup. I think I will stick with a standard set of ROSS's. I noticed on your site that you have clevite bearings, how much more were those compared to stock and would you happen to have the P#? I went back and forth on their site to no avail. Have you had her to the track at all? -Ian

Have you had a chance to yank the oil pan and see how the cynlinder walls look? I'm just curious. I know the JE's have been known to show signs of wear on the chambers (very slight). That really all depends on how "tight" or "loose" you setup the rings, pistons, bore. For a drag motor a little wear is fine w/ me as long as they seal up good.

Also, have you done a leak down test? That will really show more than a compression test.

I'm curious to here more!

later.

As of now, the car is running like crap, im having a few issues with it and time is certainly not on my side, the car wont see the track until its issues are resolved, I estimate with time/money not being on my side, it might be a few weeks :) although slowly but serely, the problems are going away :) As for the bearings, I ordered them from an old DSM vendor called The DSM Shop, they got them for me, but im sure that if you were to have your engine built any machine shop that can rebuild automotive engines can and will be able to get you a set of clevite bearings, in a rebuild case, I recommend they do, because if the engine needs to be align bored or the crank needs to be shaved, then oversized bearings will need to be ordered. As for price wise, I paid $5- dollars less than the stock bearings according to the bearing prices on Buschur's web site, I feel they are a better bearing, although stock bearings are definatly not anything to shake a stick at either.

No, I have not done so, unless there is a real need to do so, I will not be yanking the oil pan.

You mean cylinder walls :)

>>That really all depends on how "tight" or "loose" you setup the rings, pistons, bore. For a drag motor a little wear is fine w/ me as long as they seal up good.<<

The problem with JE pistons is that they set them up loose, for our engines, they ask for a .005" piston/wall clearance, where as ROSS recommends a .0035 clearance, so as you can see, the ross pistons are alot tighter than the JE setup, if im correct, I think that JE also uses a different type of aluminum than ROSS so they might expand more, as of now, I do not have any slap with my pistons, if the problem ever arises, I will then yank the pan to see how bad the problem is, keep in mind that ross also offers a banadized coating, this coating is like a hard outer shell and is able to take the abuse of skirt slap.

I might do a leakdown test, as of now the car only has about 810 miles on the engine, it seems to go pretty damn quick but with the issues that have come up, the car needs a bit more attention, so when all is said and done, I will do a leakdown test on my spare time.

What it is is silicon content... The less you have, the more the piston expands, and the JE's have almost none. So you need to run looser clearances, which causes piston slap.
