My EGT reads 1620F WOT at the end of 3rd gear... Instead of turning down the boost, are there any other way to lower down the EGT? I'm going to put in a 180degree thermostat and i doubt that it will help...

Any idea? Maybe intercooler sprayer?

Anything that increases cooling will help. So, an IC sprayer is certainly a viable option. As is water injection. Or running higher octane gasoline. Or retarding timing. Or adding fuel.

The termostat will not affect EGT's. ECT's, possibly.

Thanks!

I'm going to try installing 180 thermostat anyway to start out since it won't hurt anything... I'll keep you guys posted if it helps or not... When the weather improves, it's a project time for IC sprayer :)

Datalog = Good

Anyone run greater than 1650F? Just curious...
remember that EGT's measure events after they occur.. so if your're reading 1650 and backing off.. your cyls could be up there in the 1700s.. not good.

pick up a datalogger if you don't already have one.. with those temps you're most likely detonating like crazy => lowering your timing advance => hurting performance.

BTW.. you never mention the level of boost your're running, mods..etc.

I have a pocketlogger.. I'm running 18# of boost with Big 16G ported/clipped. I'm able to get 18 degree timing advance @1580F at the end of 3rd gear... Sometimes jumps upto 1620F. o2v around .90-.92 . Everything seems fine except of the EGT temp. I might start to add more fuel, just to see how it reacts .

Stock injector/ stock intercooler btw...:p

A stock ic cant support that type of boost on a 16g on pump gas you are on borrowed time. There is no way around it especially with stock injectors. You can run those 450s until you are at 110% duty cycle and you are still going to have knock. You really want to look into getting a fpr and if you get very serious with your tuning with more fuel pressure you may be able to squeeze by. Your ic is still going to get heat soaked very fast like after a few hard runs. You can try enlarging the ports on your ic like IRC does or you can take off the panel that is behind the ic to try to get better airflow but these are all bandaids. You really need a bigger ic end of story.

Will you get extra knock because of running stock injectors??

What kind of fuel system are you running? I was running 900*C at the top of 3rd and 4th, rewired the fuel pump and dropped the EGT quite significantly.

running VR4 pump, 10ga wire, rest of fuel system stock

It's a miracle that you have been able to run 18psi on a B16G with stock injectors... Swap a set of 550's, get a S-AFC and tune it with the pocketlogger and you will definetely feel an increase in power. That is of course after you get a FMIC...

Drop your boost to 15Psi and tune up from there. 15Psi on a big 16g is probaly pushing the max your intercooler and injectors can flow.
I have tried that and I found that 18# is the best medium for 02v, timing, EGT (a little higher). I'll start to add more fuel at high RPM and see how's the timing react.... Probably will get a little lower EGT reading.

Safer is always good, right? :p

I really think it is "miracle" too because I haven't got any fuel cut and like I said, everything seems fine except for the EGT reading.

I have SAFC btw.. I'm working on a Intercooler Sprayer and hope it will chill things out.

Crap... It still snowing outside :( Gotta love MICHIGAN!
