I saw something in DSMtalk about a camless valvetrain where solenoids operated the valves instead of the cams. I guess the cam shafts and gears were totally removed. It was supposed to give the "perfect" cam at anytime, at any driving style. Obviously this sounded very interesting (to me at least). I'm sure this would cost a fortune but my question is who makes this type of thing? I surfed the net a little and found out that ford is using this on their V8 deisels in 2003 or so. Thats not gonna do much for me. So does anyone have any info on this? Does anyone have this type of set up? Any info you guys can provide will be great! Thanks.

Are there any places that do this kind of work? RRE? Anyplace?

Have you guys heard of Roller Valves? Not Roller Rocker cams. It reduces weight of the valve train. This system are basically shafts that go through hollow orbs to each set of valves. Picture the sphere with a hole going all the way through it rotating on one axis. Rotated by cam gears.
Less than half the weght. They tested this system on a 95-96 Mustang it raised the red line from 5800 ( I believe) to something closer to ~9k. Still building power till then too. It was some place out of NJ.

Ooops,
who makes this type of thing?

Toyota. Their new Camrys (V-6) will come with those next year not sure of what other models. I think they're going with 48 volt charging system too.

BMW is the only company (actually bosch) that has solenoid lifters. and yes--it required 48 volts--as opposed to the 12 volt system we use---which means all the bulbs and everything else must be 48 volts---long way away in new cars--and I doubt even adapted to older engines
