So I recently installed a Dejon Tool upper IC pipe and I expected the "sucking" noise of the intake to change. It did, it's much louder. The IC pipe is a full pipe, goes from the IC to the throttle body.

Sometimes though, when accelerating i get this weird noise, sounds like someone blowing over a pipe. It's usually only when I'm in 2nd or 3rd and I'm up around 3 or 4k RPMs. It's like this...

I start accelerating, get the sucking noise of the turbo spooling and sucking air through the intake...wheeeee....then this hollow resonating noise "woooooo"...then back to wheeee...

I'm thinking it's resonance in the piping when the air flow reaches a certain point, but I wanted to make sure this doesn't sound serious to anyone.

Lemme know. Thanks. I have all the connections REALLY well sealed, so I don't think it's a leak. Besides, if it were a leak, it would continue to make that noise throughout the high RPM band, right?

Sounds like a resonance to me. I have a Dejon pipe too (mine is just the upper part of yours, from the TB down to the BOV location, and it's connected to my RRE UICP), and sometimes I get a similar noise...but I've checked my entire IC system and there is not one leak.

Right on, good to know. Thanks a lot! Love that Dejon Tool pipe, eh? A really great deal...

Yes I do love that pipe. I will be giving Dave all my business for pipes now, he can make anything. He actually made me that pipe before he released it on his website. I just happened to ask him that question and he said he was gonna come out with it in a month or so but he'd make me one now. Great guy to deal with!

Oops, did this just become "parts talk"? :p

hey can you guys give me the web address for that UIC pipe? i'm in need of a good cheap one and i've heard that is a great one. thanks.

Just to add in, ive got the dejon tool pipe from ic to throttle body, and i definately get a loud sucking noise. Its fairly distinct around 3k rpms.

I have the same problem but it happened to me when I was installing my JOE MBC. I thought it was normal. I can hear the sucking sound from the intake but it has that whistle or sharp noise when it's doing it. I just ignored it and I thought it was normal. I know it's not my bov (GReedy Type-S) because it's brand new. I still have the stock UICP and I use an Injen intake on my car. What are you guys using to seal the leaks?

Speaking of intake leaks. A couple days ago, i started to hear a loud almost whistle like sound. I got kinda worried. It only occurred under boost, beginning around 3 psi and continually getting higher pitched upwards. I was going to do an intake leak test, but figured i would check the seal on the bov first. Well i pulled it off and i could see the blue splatters from the gasket sealant i had used. I was kinda happy, i figured simple fix. Put a little more on the Gasket material all around and put the bov back on. Couple days later after the car got nice and hot on the highway, i can hear a whistle again. not too bad, but still there. What does everybody use as a gasket sealant?

Personally, I don't use a gasket sealant on my BOV. I just use the gasket. Here's a question: Do you use the sealant ALONG WITH the gasket?

Using just the supplied gasket should work just fine. But if you'd like to use the gasket plus a sealant, it should be fine too. What you shouldn't do is use sealant IN PLACE OF a gasket. It will most likely break and splatter like you said in your post. If you don't have the gasket for it and are just using the sealant, you will most likely be repairing it over and over again.

I had a boost leak at my turbo-outlet-to-Jpipe connection. My gasket had gone bad, so I sealed it up with JB Weld. But that's a bit more permanent!

Good luck!

I bought the dejon tool pipe and a used 1g bov from someone online. Neither came with a gasket. So i went to the auto parts store and got treated gasket paper material and some gasket sealant. I put sealant on both sides of the gasket.

I just purchased a Dejontool UIP and the TB Elbow and installed it yesterday. All I can say is that it makes a lot of difference in my car, I can feel my car breathing better. Also when I installed the pipe it actually made that noise dissappear. I was only able to install the UIP and not the TB elbow because I didn't have the proper tool but hopefully I can get that installed soon.

Did any of you guys notice some oil on the old stock UIP when you removed it? Is that normal? I just want to make sure that there's nothing wrong with my car.

It's normal to find some oil in your intake tract if your valve cover breather is plumbed to the intake. I used to find some oil in the IC pipes before I did the catch can mod.

As long as your turbo's not throwing oil, you're fine. Just make sure you clean out your IC pipes and your intercooler from time to time. You don't want your intercooler clogging up! Plus, having nice clean IC pipes helps the engine breathe cleaner air.

What do you mean the turbo should not be throwing oil? I found some oil coming out of the turbo when I stick my finger in there. I'm not sure if that's coming from the LIP or the turbo though.

Is there oil in the turbo inlet? If so, it's just oil dripping down from the breather hose. If there's no oil in your inlet but it's coming out of the turbo, you could have a seal leak between the compressor housing and the bearing section. It's been a while since I've heard of this stuff though, I think you're ok. Check underneath your turbo too, is there oil on the bearing section or on the bottom of the compressor housing?

I think I'm OK because it's coming from the inlet. Thanks.
