I've run into a clearance problem during my T3/T4 install. The TO4E compressor housing won't clear the A\C fan (passenger side) by a long shot. On the other side my Tial external wastegate won't clear the driver's side fan unless I flip it upside down.

If I go ahead and removed A\C fan will the drivers side fan work as normal? (note A\C is non functional, bad compressor)

OR should I by some aftermarket fans? Can these be wired up with the existing stock wiring?

I'm currently looking at getting (2) 10" Perma Cool electric fans:
http://www.permacool.com/Catalog/Cat_page18.html
Mounting Area Req'd: 11" x 10" x 2-1/4"
Est. CFM: 900
Motor RPM: 3000
AMP Draw: 7.0
Fuse Size: 30 AMP

What other aftermarket fans have DSMers had good luck with?

The driver's side fan is the A/C fan and the passenger side one is the radiator fan. So you might not want to take that one out ;) I think that you should go with aftermarket ones to deal with the clearing issue.

You can hook aftermarket ones to the existing wiring without much hazzle(sp??). Just tap into the right wires and you will be set. I have heard from guys running Fal electric fans.

id go for some "Tornado" fans, they are in the Summit catalog. they flow MASSIVE cfm. i dont think 900 cfm would be enough for me.

hell, i put a 16" 1200 cfm fan on my Non-turbo rx7. summit recommends their fans in relation to horsepower. and i think a 900 is recommended for something like 250 HP, so i dunno.

when it comes to cooling a turbo motor, especially one that is Modified heavily, its better to be safe than sorry.

btw, at idle the fan in my RX7 would come on for 15 seconds, and shut off. this would happen about every 5 or 7 minutes, on a summer day.

So in summary...the A\C fan is on the drivers side and the radiator fan is on the passenger side. :D

Anyway I got the compressor housing to fit in there with the stock fans somehow. The dump tube for the wastegate is another story though...

sweet set up. i like that pretty turbo.

who makes that manifold? im not sure they did their homework when designing the WG location though...

ive been told to KEEP the heat sheild on the stock turbo set up since on a 1G the underhood temps get up to 300*, and the turbine housing radiates enough heat to melt the AC fan...or at least warp it...

seeing as how your set up is REALLY close to your fans, are you gonna have a problem like that?

It's a cast iron Turbonetics manifold. Yeah it sucks the WG is only able to dump off the #1 runner, but oh well. The car has had turbine housing heat shield off for quite awhile now(before the new turbo)...the a\c fan seems ok. But yeah the new setup well probably melt the sucker...

that Turbonetics manifold has got to be the stupidest design ive seen yet.

Who the hell would think that venting just ONE cylinder is going to make it run well.

I thought about getting that manifold and making a block off plate for that #1 port, and use a T3/T4 w/ an internal Gate, except remove the Gate. Meaning take the flapper off and then remotely mount a Tial away from the turbing housing by an Inch or so, and have a dump tube.

Or, an EVO 3 manifold, Ball bearing 20g, 3" O2 eliminator and do the remote mounted external WG and have the internal gate dissected and plug the actuator shaft hole in the turbine housing.

but thats AFTER we get our 14b into the 12s.
