i have a 91 GSX. ok here are the symptoms. i was driving about 40 miles at an average of 85mph. It was running fine. I passed a couple of cars and i definatly had boost. i stopped for about 10 minutes and got back in and i noticed that i wasnt accelerating like usual. my after market boost meter is showing no boost. i usually have 13 psi. i put Mobil 1 in it about 1000 miles ago. i have the turbo timer set for 2 minutes and it has always been timed. the engine is still hot so i cant check to see if the turbines spin freely. all the pipes seem to be connected. the car runs fine but there is no boost. help help help. boo hoo ..........i dont want a N/T

Check to see if the wastegate actuator arm is still attached to the wastegate. The cotter pins can rust off and the WGA is the only thing that holds the WG closed to build boost. You can see it through the lower heat shield just follow the arm to the end and make sure the WG pin still sticks through and has a cotter pin in it.

If that isn't it then I'm stumped.

Ihave the same problem but my turbo wheel does spin but aint getting no boost its been like that for months, I think I might have a leak in the manifold but cant feal it might be leaking from the bottom, it doesnt sound loud either, any tips for this please.

I had the same problem. My turbo would spin and create boost only after 4,000rpms. So I pulled the manifold and found that it was cracked, whixh in turn created a terrible boost leak.

Corvettekiller,
While I have no doubt that a leaking exhaust manifold will cause lowered performance, I can assure you thats it's not necessarly going to cause total loss of boost. I'm missing at least two from cylinder 1, have the normal cracks at the collector and runner 4, and still produce 13 psi boost with an initial spike to 15. What im suggesting is you continue to diagnose your problem. Make sure your wastegate actuator is connected and working. Listen for the sound of your turbo spooling, check for intake leaks, etc. Blackboost was at least getting boost from 4k up.
You say your not getting any, so I expect you'll find something else is also wrong.

Your going to be pissed if after you go to the effort to remove and replace the manifold studs you broke and you still have the problem.

91EclipseGSX,
I asked about your using a turbo timer to see if the turbo might have coked up. If so you might get lucky getto cleaning the center section with solvent for free it up but I wouldn't expect it to last long without a rebuild or replacement.

stevep is right....

Having an exhaust manifold leak will not certainly leave without the ability to boost. You turbo should at least produce something. I have seen cases where the turbo has a lot of shaft play and the wheels come in contact with the housing; causing the wheels and the housings to get damaged leaving the turbo unable to create boost. But that is one of many variants in here.

First of all. 2 minutes is not nearly enough time to cool the turbo down after driving on the higway that long. At night, after coming home from work I would pop the hood and see the exhaust housing glow. It would take at least 4-4.5 minutes of timing before it stopped glowing.

When my buddies turbo ceased, we found that there was a clog in the oil feed line (he would never time his car). After a little bit of farting with that... Walah, she spins free again. Worst case is what Blackboost said where you would need to buy a new turbo.
