I was coming home from my girlfriends house the other night and I got off the parkway to take hooper ave home, I hit a light and Im jus sittin there fiddlin with my CDs when a white (god awful ugly) 5.0 pulls up and revs, I was like hell yeah, being it was like 2am and no one was on the road. Anyway, in front of us is a nice ass straightaway so I point forward and he nods and then green light. I launch at like 5 grand and spank his ass off the line, pulling in 2nd and holding in 3rd and 4th. I was atabout 100-105 when I shut down and he was about 6-7 cars back. He comes next to me and is like damn man that thing hauls ass! I was like thanks man, what do you have done to that, he said upper and lower intakes, headers, y pipe? x something, catback of course, cam, and ported heads. I was like woah. I got full exhaust, intake, and flywheel. Needless to say, he was impressed. He was a cool Mustang guy tho, good to see, most of them are boners! Pce out

those 5.0's feel faster than they are cause those things are like instant torque, people spin them arround when it rains on accident, I was even with one in my stock laser and I just took off normally and so did he, they aren't too shabby till you run across a twin turbo 5.0 I've only seen one and thats all it took, that thing was running like low 10's on street tires with a little traction problem like first through 3rd gear, it was a complete sleeper nothing to give the car away except for the destinct turbo whine in the exhaust at idle. od gokill man
 
hahaha! gotta love putting one to the lovely 5.0! i actually have a thing with killing 5.0's around my area, simply because nobody knows about the ability of a 4cyl turbo car! especailly when all the guys that have 5.0's around here think they are untouchable. all though there are a grand total of like 3 guys who drive mustangs around here that are convinced that their car isnt made by "GOD" :D and one of them drives a 2.3l turbo svo. (very nice car)
 
good kill man, I know how what it feels like to be the owner of a 5.0 and see a DSM fly by and destroy me, I had a 91 5.0 notchback, just a straight exhaust no cat, 3:73 gears, for those who dont know what that is, its basically different gears put in the differential, the higher the ratio, the more torque & speed off the line but drawback is lower top end speed. Anyway a black 90 or 91 DSM turbo (eagle talon) lined up with me at a light, he also had a straight exhaust (that thing was louder than my stang) off the light I had him by 3-4 cars just at launch till about 45MPH, I was like man that thing is pretty slow for a turbo DSM (I already knew about turbo DSM's since I'm not bias against any cars, love speed no matter what vehicle so I had knowledge of these cars and there potential at the time as well) well sure enough this guys come flying by me when I hit 50 MPH and I shut off at 80MPH, by then he had me by 3 cars. We stopped at the light and talked about our cars, he was pretty cool. Heheh look at me now, I had 2 DSM's (sold one) and planning to swap out for a 2.0 turbo on my 1.8. Oh and turns out later on I found out from another eclipse owner he is part of his car club, that DSM is one of the fastest in this area with a load of mods though a good sleeper cuase his cars looks like crap with a badly faded paint job.
 
5.0's are instant torque. too bad their top end is WEAK (compared to anything comparable read: ls1/lt1)

I drove my firend's 91. < w/3:73s, aluminum driveshaft, clutch (stiffer than any act ive ever felt-horrible to drive), cold air, h pipe, exhaust, fpr, throttle body. he never ran better than a 2.35 60' no matter what he did. >

i put it in first and put the throttle 3/4 of the way down and the car slowed to about 5 mph from 15 becuase the tires were spinning. as soon as I let off, the car shot forward :rolleyes:

put it in second, tried to floor it from a 5mph roll, liquified the tires.

it ran a 13.9 @ 98 mph (i think-- it may have been 99-100)
 
i just sold a 90 5.0, and yea it feels way faster than it was, cause i had heads and gears and all the usual stuff you put on a five o, and it ran 13.50s @101, but it was all low end power, i find my eclipse feels horribly slow, but it actually is faster than my old mustang:rolleyes:

damn i miss my mustang:(
 
Yeah. How was traction on that thing? i'll bet it was a bitch to get that mofo to hook.

Let me ask you this: how possible do you think it is to run 11.80's on the motor in a daily-driven 5.0? There's dude talking shit around here and I don't believe a word of it. Maybe a 12.80, not an 11.80 even if he has a cam and heads and all the bolt ons. He doesn't have NAWS either.
 
my buddie runs 11.80s, with edelbrock heads(ported, bigger valves), ported cobra intake, larger mass, throttle body, full exhaust, 4.10s(this helps), suspenion work, B cam, 24lb injectors.

he also sprayed it once(150shot), put a hole in 2 pistons and trapped 122mph

they can be fast, just have to get the right combination

A friend had a 5.0 that ran 11.6 all-motor, daily driven although the more it was driven the more things broke. :) He ran a high 10 on a 100-shot.

It's unlikely unless he knows his stuff. but not impossible.
 
There is one there that runs a low 11 with his daily driven Mustang. Its actually the only car he has so he has to keep it running. He has the bottle on it and runs into the 10s with it. If you do things properly then you don't really have to worry about things breaking too much. Just don't plan on going through the drive thru with it otherwise it will overheat.
 
I'm from Jeff City. But I belong to Gateway DSM. If you aren't a member you should be. I think I remember your name from the message boards though. www.gateway.dsm.org There is a meeting next weekend. I hope I can go to it as long as I get my tranny back in time to put it in.
