Hi, i've been reading up on this forum for a few weeks now (love reading the kill stories) and decided to sign up when i actually got the money to get a dsm. I've been looking at mostly eclipses,-- 1g's mainly. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what exactly the differences are in the eclipse gs/rs/gsx - (ie: which ones have turbo/awd and so forth). Im still in the process of learning more about these sweet cars, so sorry if this question is newbish. Any help would be greatly appreciated.. - thanks.

RS - i believe it's the non turbo 1.8L engine, actally, no i think it's the 2g 1.8L or whatever the lower end engine was then, the GS was the 1g 1.8L or 2.0L engine (depending on which you wanted...i think).
GS - non turbo (2.0L i think, could be 2.0L/1.8L option)
GS Turbo - turbo FWD
GSX - turbo AWD

1GS there is really no RS model.

Base Eclipse - 1.8L fwd 92hp

Eclipse GS 1.8L (92hp) FWD or 2.0L (135hp) FWD power everything interior , spoiler , moon roof all the extras

Eclipse GS Turbo same as 2.0L GS but with turbo (195hp) FWD

Eclipse GSX 2.0L turbo (195hp) and AWD

Ok, that clears up a lot of confusion for me. I found some really cheap gsx's but i think the reason they're so cheap is because the turbos or something might need rebuilding.. or replacing.. was wondering how much that might set me back if i have to buy a new one or rebuild the existing one.

The Lazer has a RS model.
And as for cheap turbos:

Talon --
TSi - Turbo Sport injection
(the 'I' designation is a carryover from the 80's when car
manufacturers wanted to specify that a vehicle's engine was
fuel injected rather than carbureted - BMW was among the first
vehicle manufacturers to add this suffix)

[I've also heard "Turbo Sport Intercooled". -talon mgr]

ES - Edition Sport
(this is a unique one...Chrysler introduced the 'ES' designation
on the Dodge Daytona as an alternative to differentiate
themselves from the growing popularity of 'SE' by other
manufacturers - it worked for the Daytona, so it was ported to
the Talon)
ESi - Edition Sport injection
(same as above with the added attempt at sophistication by
elongating the suffix)
DL - Definitely Lame
(just kidding - it's an abreviation for 'Deluxe')

Laser / Eclipse --
RS - Rally Sport
(intended to denote the sportiness level above the base model)
GS - Grand Sport
GS-T - Grand Sport-Turbo
GSX - Grand Sport All Wheel Drive
(this one is a bit of a strech by the marketing folks at
Mitsubishi. The 'X' refers to the word 'cross' as in
'cross country', making loose reference to being able to
cover terrain that other vehicles cannot)
