Has anybody done this mod yet? What's your opinion on what's better (price, installation, performance)? I'll probably use one with a greddy type-s BOV. What do you think?

I did the HRC UICP and love it runs all the way to the TB and was a breeze to install ofcourse you know you need an intake before this mod to allow room. I also did the Greddy BOV at the same time. You do have a boost gauge? you might also need an MBC after this, I did. I asked around before I bought mine and everyone seemed quite content with the HRC and claimed to be about the best out there. You will notice a big improvement in spoolup with this mod. I also vent my Greddy type-s with no ill side effects but I have yet to see how that goes when it gets warmer being in NY and all.

I've got the RRE pipe with GReddy Type-S flange for the 2G. For $95, you get a nice mandrel bent piece that's beaded on both ends for blowoff protection and powdercoated dark grey. It comes with high-quality rubber couplings, clamps, and instructions. It fits like a glove. :D

UIC Pipes

I like the HRC pipes as compared to the RRE just for the simple fact that you dont have to use the stock rubber hose to connect the throttlebody elbow to the other half of the upper pipe. This in my opinion gives the upperhand to HRC with a more responsive set-up.My friend has the RRE pipes and you can still see that stock rubber hose expand under boost.

Thanks, HRC does sound good. . . anyone know prices or where the best deal is out there on that pipe and the greddy type-s BOV.

HRC pipes

I posted pics of my HRC pipes and Greddy BOV on the thread above. I got the stage 1 and stage 2 (upper). Goes from the intercooler all the way up to the throttle body. Replaces your throttle body elbow. I didn't get the RRE because you still have to use some of your stock rubber hose.

RRE pipe is $95 plust RRE throttle body elbow is $60, total
$155.
HRC stage 1 pipe 89.99 (current sale), stage 2 99.95, total $189.94

Difference of $34.94. For that difference you don't have to use some of your stock rubber hose, plus I think these just look nicer.

yeah definetly go with the stage II at HRC at least their Stage III also gives you the LICP, your best bet. but be warned that lower pipe is aroyal PIA to get connected to the SMIC at least mines was.

Greddy IC pipe kit

If you get the Greddy IC pipe kit, you also get the lower pipe from the turbo to the IC.

Greddy kit is anywhere from $175-225, look around for it.

The kit is a matte gray color now, used to be a blue crinkle type paint.

You know what, it was designed for a Greddy BOV. But I had the flange cut off and put on an HKS SSQBOV.

I have the one piece RRE upper intercooler piping and i'm quite happy with it. It bumped my PSI from 12 to 15, which was definitly a plus. Do you really think the throttle body elbow piece is worth it? I'm debating whether to buy it or not. thanks a lot.

TB Elbow

The TB Elbow usually just gives a slight gain with throttle response because of that bend being slightly reduced going into the throttle body. I dont know of too many people adding the TB Elbow after doing the upper pipe and claiming it to be a real "kick ass" mod but I'm sure its worth it at the minimal prices charged for getting one. I would do it over again. Not a waste in my opinion.

The Greddy pipe does not include the throttle body elbow. Plus you'll have to lose the lower pipe if you get a FMIC anyway.

As far as why get a throttle body? My question is why spend good money on a mandrel bend IC pipe with a larger diameter just to leave the smaller diameter, press bent throttle body as a restriction.

Yes you'll still need a lower pipe with a FMIC but it won't be the same shape as the stock lower pipe. So you'll lose the lower pipe of that Greddy kit when you switch to a FMIC and replace it with one shaped for your FMIC.
