I already bought some 225/45/17 Bridgestone S-03s and was planning on getting some sweet 17x8 wheels. But now I just found out that the wheels aren't available in 17x8 after all, only 17x7.5. Will the 225 tires still work well with the 7.5" wide wheel?

No they won't work!!!... Just give them to me & all will be good. But really.. yes they will fit just fine. 7.5" rim is actually perfect for a 225/45/17. I have 235/45/17s on my 17x7" rims.. they work very well. I used to have some 17x8" rims & the 225s were a bit too skinny for them.. I went to 245/40/17s for them. Hope this awnsers your question.

I personally think 225's fit best on a 7.5" wheel. Its beefy enough to stick out the slightest but not too big to look like oversized donuts. I've seen 215/45/17 tires on 7.5" rims and thought it made the side wall look too short. I've also seen 225/45's on a 8" wheel and thought the lip looked too exposed. So, your setup should look perfect!:D

Man I'm having some bad luck. First the wheels I REALLY wanted to get are no longer available in our size, then the other wheels I wanted to get are now discontinued, and my 3rd choice which is Rota SubZeros are only offered in a 45mm offset. This means I would need to use spacers, which is bad right??

Really?? So my 225/45/17 tires with Rota SubZeros in 17x7.5 with a 45mm offset will work ok with no rubbing or other downsides??

How come everyone says you need ~40 offset then? Just curious. Either way, thanks for your input.

I have this exact setup, and they fit perfect. I thought that I would need spacers also, but no, you don't. I wanted 235/45/17 tires, but decided that it wouldn't be worth the headache if they rubbed with the 45mm offset of the Subzeros. The 225/45/17's are pretty close to the lower rear control arm and front struts, so the 235's may just barely clear. You will want to get hubcentric rings for the Rotas as they have a generic centerbore.

Good luck.

Good info! I just wanted to add that you could get those hubcentric rings from Tire Rack for a couple of bucks.
