Alright...so yesterday a friend comes over with his WRX. Only mod is an AEM cold air intake. We were going to hook up a boost controller and a boost gauge...but we managed to lose the gauge somewhere between yesterday and Sunday.

Anyway, we're riding around, we lose to a LS1 Trans Am, no surprise there. About to run the TA from a stop, and we see another friend in his 91 TSi AWD. So naturally, we turn around and chase the Talon!

First run is from a dead stop, the Talon gets a fender on the WRX from the light, but since his 2nd gear syncro is non-existant, and there's not much left of 2nd gear anyway, we gain the fender back on the 1-2 shift. By 90mph we are about 1-1/2 car ahead.

Next run is from a 25mph roll in 2nd gear. It was really more of a 'whos turbo spools faster' contest. About dead even, but at the end of 2nd the WRX seemed to have a little more guts on the high RPM, and we got to about 90 and the Talon was almost a half a car back.

The Talon has about 130,000 on it, stock exhuast, only mods are K&N and 14psi via a MBC. I'm pretty sure with a full exhaust he'd walk away from the Subaru.

Anyone else run a WRX in their not-so-heavily-modded DSM?

I pulled away from them in my 90 FWD Laser, and I also lost by about 2 cars to one, from a stop to 90mph, in my 92 GSX (Auto, IC pipe, full 2.5" exhuast, ported exh manifold, 15psi, walboro)

Has your friend looked at Subaru of America's stance on warranty work when its related to the M/T? They want the car completely stock down to the stock size and grade of tires. Even then they might not cover the damage due to them claiming that he raced it. Tell him to be careful with the Subaru transmission cause they are well known for crumbling.

How could you lose a boost gauge? They don't just get up and walk away. :p

It seems WRXs are pretty fast from a stop, not so powerful from a high-speed roll due to the small turbo. But it sure does get you out of the hole quick.

It's got over 25,000 miles on it, he drives it like a maniac. The stock tires are almost bald, and he turns the tires and you smell clutch regulary.

Trans shifts like silk still ;)

Shouldn't last too much longer then and they usually go out all at once not slowly like in other cars where it gets harder to shift and the gears make alot of noise.

FWIW, I raced the same WRX last night in my 92 GSX (AUTO, UICP, 16psi, MBC, Walboro, 2.5" DP + HKS exhaust, Test pipe, ported exh manifold)

Nearly dead even from a roll. 20-100 and I might have a SLIGHT edge. He couldn't get past me but I couldn't get away from him.

With a bigger turbo (13C or whatever SUCKS) and injectors, and auto might not be so bad. He's lose a little bit of ground when he shifted, but he'd shift again right when he'd made it back up. Gotta love that automatic and the gears.

He's got me a bit on the launch though. Oh well, this car won't be mine in 24 hours....

I ran one just the other week. The guy was alone, I had a passenger (mark93). He was in the left lane and I didn't pay any attention to him whatsoever - while chatting with my friend. I was by his rear quarter, in second gear, almost ready to shift to third - when he dropped the hammer all of a sudden (no warning) and instantly pulled a car on me. I punched it, blew by him like he was standing still and had a couple of cars on him by the end of my second, shifted to third, pulled another car on him and had to shut down as we were approaching an intersection.. Personally, I expected much better fight and was rather disappointed with the performance of the WRX. :D

Heeheee

91 Eclipse GSX, K&N, IRC aluminum radiator, Big 16G, 95 ex-man, 95 O2 housing, MBC@18psi, UICPU, full 3" + DynoMax UltraFlow, Walbro 255HP, AFPR, 650cc's, S-AFC, ACT 2600, Eibach ProKit, KYB AGX, 17x7.5 DNA Tuner, Kumho Ecsta 712

You don't count ;)

I can walk one from a roll haven't raced from a stop. I've got filter, 2.5 turboback, 1G BOV, and boost that's crazy high if my boost guage is reading correctly +20 on T-25 :( No boost controller.

:D But I still win...

BTW have you heard on of these with a 3+" DP or 2 into one DP (3.5") Holy cowturds, it's beautiful...

I can beat a stock one fairly easy when I'm on pump gas. But I have a buddy who has a 5spd WRX with Full 3" turbo Back, CAI, and boost controller at 17psi. He can give me a hell of a run. I'm dead even with him from start, from a roll when ever. But that's when I'm on pump gas at 18psi. When I add race gas then I kill him. But with just those few mods they can easly run mid to low 13s.

This weekend I installed buschur 2.5" dp, K&N, turboxs dual stage, ngk plugs/wires, eibach coils, kyb GR2 struts/shocks....

Even at 9lbs stock WRX's don't stand a chance ;)

BTW, a 2.5" downpipe with a glass pack on the end, dumped under the car, sounds fuggin' NASTY....

This is so true. I told this story before but i'm going to tell it again. There was this guy who just bought a wrx and the 1st day took it to the track and launch the hell out of it. Well the very same day crusing home, tranny exploded

My friend has a WRX, bone stock except for he added a MBC he made in his garage. He ran a 13.2 at the track, and put cars on a 99 Camaro SS from a stop. I don't know why it's that fast, and I dont know what his boost is set to, but I've seen his slips, and its no lie. He fuckin moves. Also his tranny died after like 6 months of owning the car and they installed a new one. I guess it is all in how cool the dealership you bought your WRX from is.

I spanked on Wrx on the FWY. It was a brand new one with Vehicle selling info on the side windows. I can't say how many cars, but I walked all over him. My mods back then: Injen intake, Disconnected Muffler, Upper IC, & MBC(15 lbs.) Oh yeah, I only have a T-25 too!

i was dead even 30-100mph with 2.5" smic piping and elbow, 15psi and K&N...with rediculous fake knock and about 5-10deg timing.

from a roll it was wet out so i just spun and he was off. i bought a dsm test pipe off the guy so we talked and he had mbc, intake, and exhaust.

wrx what? :p
