You can tell if its a core exchange turbo or not, they use all new parts on a new t28. There will be no cracks or anything in the exhaust housing and it should say t28 on it. They said forsure there would be no used parts like on the core exchange ones. Dont get me wrong on the core exchange ones you get all new internals just not a new comressor housing and exhaust housing.

As well i ordered mine on the 23rd of this month. They said they have like 20 back ordered and dont have any of them made, They are going to do a big batch then ship them all out on the 1st of july.

peace

man you better get your facts straight before you come by anymore of an asshole then you already did. Call forced performance, if you dont do the core exchange you get a totally new turbo, not a used t25 compressor housing and a cracked exhaust housing. Ask them, if your exhaust housing has anymore then 3 cracks they will not except the exchange.

Call them up, if you pay the 900 you dont get any used parts. No core exchange parts on the 900 dollars turbo. ALL NEW PART INCLUDING NEW COMPRESSOR HOUSING AND EXHAUST HOUSING>

thanks

Ok maybe that's true.. When I got my Fpt28 from an exchange, it looked like new and had the FP emblem on it. It looked brand new. Where does the new turbo say T28 on it? But I really doubt Fp would sell you an exchange product with cracks on it. I remember a while back that they where back ordered because they didn't have enough exchange units.

Forced performance said 90% of the core exchange models have small cracks that you can see with the naked eye. They dont affect performance because they dont go all the way through.

so anyway, how deadly is your turbo? Cant wait to get mine.

peace

When I talked to them they told me that they made them with exchanged units. That's just what they told me. I talked to them many times and they never told me that non exchange was different. Unless they didn't let me know or they changed things recently? Is that why you're turbo is taking longer to get to you?

Well I got mine right before the Big28 was out. But mine has a smaller turbine housing with the same compressor. But just to give you an Idea. My buddy with the exact mods as me except he has a big 16g ran Identical times and mph as me. So far I ran a 13.1 @ 103.7 with a 1.84 60ft. Then my buddy got a front mount and now he pulls 107mph traps and a 12.7 et. I really need a front mount that really helps out. But when you get it you should be in the 12s.

Hmmm... I must have been one of the lucky 10% that didn't have cracks in the housing, none period. Theres know difference in mine compared to a brand spanking new one, matter of fact mine looked like a totally brand new turbo when I recieved mine several months ago.

I have used new turbine housings when I run out of acceptable reman housings to use for the exchange turbos. I usually only do this when things get bottlenecked and overly delayed.

I didn't think I would get any complaints ;)

You guys do a good job of helping each other out, keep it up. I have seen some great advice in this thread.

Thanks for the info Robert! You guy's do excellent work, period. Anthony

hey robert, do you still need some exchange units? i have 2 t25's with no cracks but 1 has some bad shaft play, the other is in perfect condition.... i am looking for 1 to become a big28 for myself and was wondering if you had any use for the other one? possible a little more discount on mine ;) but anyways just my $0.02 i cant wait to send mine out and get it back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have ran into one pain in the ass problem with this turbo. I could hear an exhaust leak. I removed the upper heatshield and found that all 4 of the bolts that hold the turbo to the mani were loose, causing a leak around the metal gasket(new 7cm from FP). I re-tourqued the bolts a little more than spec to be sure of a seal. Still no seal. I tried loosening the bolts and one stripped and snapped off. Now I have to take the turbo back out and have the rest of the bolt removed. I have a few questions for you guys.

My turbo and EVO III mani are both ported with 7cm gasket to match.
1) Does it matter which side goes up on the metal gasket?

2) Where can I find replacement bolts? I'll get extra just in case.

3) What do you guys reccommend tourqing them to some have said 23,33,44ftlbs? I don't want this to happen again...

4) Have any of you guys used Lock-Tite or Anti-Seize grease on these bolts or should I not use anything???

I don't know what the correct torque setting is, but don't even think about using Lock-tite on those bolts...you will be sealing your own grave. Antisieze on the other hand isn't a bad idea. You'd be surprised how many times you'll have take the turbo off during the course of modding your car.

I agree, loctite would be a very bad idea. Definitely use anti-sieze to prevent the threads from binding. Also, make sure you are using the factory washers for the turbo bolts. They are dimpled to assist in sealing. If you are using regular hardware store washers that could explain why you can't keep a seal.

Lock tite no way.... Someone recommended it but I thought that was a little stupid on there part(forgive me for even asking about that one). Anit-sieze yes I have it and the stock washers but thats not the prob at all. I read that loose turbo bolts is caused by the downpipe not being supported at the front of the car like the stock downpipe was...New SS Gasket and Grade 8 bolts on the way..

Has anyone made a clamp or something to mount it to the bracket on the car (that the old downpipe mounted to)???

Is it possible to replace the Turbo stud and nut for an appropriate bolt(stock bolt and Washer)???? Or do you have to have it???

I upgraded my exhaust about a year and a half ago and have not had a bracket on my downpipe ever since. My turbo bolts stay nice and tight. Not to say it can't be your problem, of course. Just my experience.

No customer service complaints in the forums. Read the rules. You should contact the vendor directly.

I haven't had a downpipe bracket on for years and never had problems of any sort. I really should put it back on, though....

I think the torque setting is 45-ish. I just crank 'em down a good bit, put 20-50 miles on the car, and then somewhere during that time pop the hood after running it fairly hard, and if the bolts are loose at all then crank 'em down again while hot and they'll stay put after that. Works for me.

Went to the track for just the 2nd time ever and got some pretty decent times with my Big28. These were all done on 93 octane pump gas, 20psi, and a very full weight car (every option available for the car is on the car = big fat pig). Also, I don't power shift or speed shift or anything--the car was setup and run just like it is every day on the street. Here are my 5 times for the day. Note that trap speeds went down as the day wore on since it was getting fairly hot and the car just wasn't staying cool enough between runs.

60'-----1.843----1.844----1.828----1.929----1.818
1/8----8.283----8.376----8.255-----8.386----8.209
mph---85.05----85.02----85.13----84.80----85.11

1/4----12.943---13.028--12.914---13.058--12.901
mph---105.36--105.34---104.66--104.50--103.74

I'll be posting these to the track times page as well. Maybe I'll have to see what the car can do on 110 octane now. :D
