just a quick question. does the 2nd gen exhaust manifold just bolt right on to the 1gen? or is there some modifications to make it fit properly? which would be a better way to go... a ported 1st gen manifold, or a 2nd gen manifold?

thanks

I think you'll want to do just a touch of grinding on the lower right hand corner if you're looking from the front of the car where it bolts to the engine. Otherwise, I think it's a bitch to get in. This is all coming from memory, although I do know that my EVO manifold had the corner ground down so it would fit mine. I'm looking at it right now, it's sitting on my desk :(

People contend that the EVO is the same as the 2G, so I would guess you may want to.

Here is a link with the info on the 2G manifold, along with the small modification that must be done to it so that it fits...

BTW, go with a ported 2G maniofold, which is 100 times better than a 1G one. Better yet, go with an EVOIII one, it has a bigger collector than the 2G one.;)

what type of gains are realized by going with the 2G mainfold? Is it really worth doing with the stock 14B? I am planning to upgrade my turbo when the stocker dies, and was going to look into it then. However, if it is a good mod, I might go at it when I install my exhaust.

would it be ok to pick up an exhaust manifold off an eclipse in a junk yard? or is there something i should look out for? or is there somewhere else i can get one? i read that page and understand what i need to grind off so the corner clears teh engine mount... how much does a stock exh manifold cost? how much do you think some place would charge me to port it? or how hard is it to do it myself? i have the tools, and plenty of time to do it in. or is this something i should have somebody else do...

thanks
