hrello, my 30 amp 20 dollar fuse went out twice today. What a bitch. It only happent when i used the passenger side window switch on the drivers controller.

The drivers window was fine, and the power set was fine, even if i used the passenger side power window switch it was fine.

But as soon as i used the drivers side control bam the fuse blew.

its like 20 dollars each.

Its fixed now but i didnt do anything.

All i did was check and clean the driver side connections and its fine now.

Electrical problems really scare me.

Is the like a electrical problem solving guide?

or any tips and tricks???

thanks

I dont think there is really any "master electrical guide". Electric problems are sporadic and similar simptoms may have TOTALLY different causes. What it sounds like to me is that your connections were either dirty or lose and you had a short... I would keep an eye on it for now but if it acts fine for a few weeks then cool.. if not then it's time to start investigating...

well for starters, CleanGS is most likely right... and some supporting facts (save you some trouble shooting if the problem does come back)

the passenger side controls all run through th driver side PCB (primary control board) so that the driver can "lock" the passenger side window... so if its working from passenger side, you know the wires from driverside PCB->pass switch->motor == good, might wanna have your friends roll the window down when they're with ya just to see if it won't do it from the passenger side also... since so far its only done it from the drivers switch, you can assume driver switch->passenger motor != good which was most likely where your problem happened....

you say you cleaned the connections? just the white plug going into the bottom of the black box where the switches are attached? if so, what if anything was on it that looked like it would have caused a problem?

hope this helps, if not, I can offer more info, heh tore my windows apart umpteen times looking for an easy fix for on touch-up mod ;) hehe Good luck :)

It was the fuse under the hood, 30ampi think.
In line fuse.

Must have been a bad connection.

thanks for the help.

and you said $20? was it encased in gold or something? I blew my fuse rebuilding the switch, (yes I know unhook grond but hey I'm lazy when it comes to popping the hood so I'm just extremely careful) cost like $3 from autozone or something like that... well some autoparts store... Discount Auto thats the big chain in GA...

if you paid $20 you got ripped...

I'm going to say that Tekky is right, but one thing that I think he may have forgotten is, there is probably a set of wire's going from the drivers switch to the passenger motor, so the driver can control the window, while the passenger cannot. (but I'm not looking at a diagram, nor am I really fimilar with the system in these car's, to say this IS the problem) It is possible that there is a short, so when you try to send power to the motor, it's being grounded straight, therefore unlimited (so to say) amperege is going through that circuit, blowing the fuse. As for a 20 dollar fuse, you're getting ripped. A ANL fuse shouldn't cost that much, let alone a AGU, or a MAXI. It could be a circuit breaker, I know a lot of power windows use circuit breakers, but they shouldn't cost 20 bucks either, maybe 10 at the maximum.

the fuse is one of those boxed fuses in the main box under the hood... with the bead in the middle of the clear top, complete platic housing just like the alternator fuse ;) however I cant tell by your profile, 1g's may have the wire to bypass the window lock from drivers side, 2g'd do *not* if the lock button is down, neither switch will control the drivers side ;) heh this is another mod I will be doing to my car, by passing the lock for the driver I *HATE* that its stupid, cause in order to roll it down a lil the driver must unlock it giving the passenger access to roll it down also... *grumble* (unless mine's screwed up but I got my car fairly new so I doubt that)....
