Yes is does. The opening for the silencer is only about 1 1/2" in diameter. It sure does a great job in silencing the N1, but you can definatley feel the difference with it on or off. Boost will also drop a bit because of the restriction.

are u planning on using the silencer all the time?? it kind of sounds like it. i could be totally wrong tho....... if u are worried about the noise level, its not taht bad, my buddy has a gst spyder and has the n1 on his car and it sounds awesome... nice deep tone and not TOO loud..... but nonetheless u will get noticed.........

Actually my N1 is pretty loud, but that's with a 3" downpipe and no cat. Before I bought the silencer I would only use my N1(muffler) at the track. For street, I used the stock muffler hooked up to my piping. The stock muffler is definately better performance wise when compared to the N1 muffler w/ silencer.

To answer your question SDSGSX, any upgrade of the stock cat back will gice an increase of power, even with the Silencer in.

Just before I forget, the main advantage of the Silencer is that it stops water getting in the Exhaust when it is raining. (haha) I love the sound of the exhaust. Why block it up.

That's one of the advantages living in the Philippines. No fix it tickets here.

how much are silencers for the N1 and where can i find them?

You won't need the silencer, its not loud at all, but then again I still have the stock cat and DP. To me the silencer is a waste, take 3" all the way back then plug it off down to 1.5", completely defeats the purpose of a 3" exhaust. Its only as strong as its weakest link.

nobody is saying to leave the silencer in all the time

The N1 isn't loud at all...before i got my 3" testpipe i could barely hear it with the windows up. However after my testpipe it got a lot louder, but still not enough for a "fix it ticket". I saw in this review in sports compact car a year ago where they were testing the N1 on a240sx, and they said the silencer made no difference in performance.

Was it the pokey KA24DE engine in the 240SX or a SR20DET swap? That makes a huge difference as the KA would probably benefit WITH the silencer in as to having more backpressure.

For all intents, running no silencer is the most ideal situation with our (turbocharged) cars. I've never even run with mine in. Never plan to either. Just swap in the stock DP for emissions day.

I have the full N1 exhaust system (full downpipe with no cat, catback) and I've never had any problems around where I live with my system, despite it smelling like absolute ass.

Your average motorcycle-dickhead with straight pipes on a harley makes a lot more noise than the N1 at full WOT, but that's not to say that it's quiet either. It's very bassy at lower RPM's and around 2500 tends to cause the interior to resonate. But I'm young, I'm stupid. If I wanted a quiet car, I would've gotten a honda Insight or something.

Do you have the full N1 system? I just have the muffler w/ custom piping. There are no resonators just straight piping from the turbo back. It seems loud to me, but I guess that's just a matter of opinion. Anyway, for the record, I've gotten a fix it ticket here in Socal for exhaust noise even when I had stock dp/cat and a tanabe exhaust. That combo was a lot more quiet than my no cat N1 w/o silencer. Bad luck I guess.
