Well lemme start by saying, I don't believe everything to be true in movies, but I have a question. The 2G Eclipse GST in the Fast and the Furious was supposedly running 10 sec 1/4 miles, I was wondering if it was possible for a 2G FWD to be running 10's. I know that a lot and I mean a lot of things in that movie are beyond believiable and a load of crap,(by no means does that mean I hate the entire movie, I think it's pretty good) well I own a 1996 Eclipse GST and I was wondering if it was possible to have a street driven GST to run 10's? I know that really anything is possible with cash but what are some of the mods required to be running these times?, I wish I was running 10's but I've set more realistic goals (low 13's is what I want to be running) I bought the GST instead of the GSX due to the breaking parts and engine stress involved with AWD . I'm not Honda slow nor am I close to running 11's but I sometimes regret buying the GST insead of the GSX. I was hoping to hear some good reasons of owning a GST. Don't get my wrong I love my car to death but sometimes I wish I had the damn AWD jump(heh heh).

Its possible but it would be easier just to convert yours to AWD and upgrade it from there... You would be looking at PSI you never would have thought was possible to do that :) (Complete internal engine rebuild, turbo, nitrous, stripped, right down to the 8.5 pound wheels with racing slicks)

I don't think it's possible for a FWD car to get into the 10s based on traction alone. Of course, the motor and trans could be modified for that HP, I'm saying I just don't feel FWD could possibly provide enough traction (in a street heavy car).

I could be wrong...

The only 9 sec FWD eclipse is a 1G by some guy out in Florida, name Gary Marsh????

Why can't a FWD Eclipse make it into the 10's? The engine is more than capable with forged internals and nitrous. Traction isn't stopping the RWD Supra guys from getting into the 10's and 9's.... I can't even count how many 10 second Supras there are and they have the same disadvantage FWD has.

With a properly tuned suspension and a built motor there is no reason a FWD couldn't make it into the 10's. It all depends on the driver. You can have a car that is capable of 9's but if you don't know how to drive it you will run 11's all day.

11's are good :D , but 10's better, but then again them suupra's take hp gains better dont they? they's got the bigger displacement.

would it cost more to make a fwd a rwd or awd?

RWD is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than FWD for drag racing. FWD is the worst for dragging, while RWD is much better (drive wheels in back, engine in front). You can't compare a RWD Supra running 10's and a FWD DSM and say it can run the same. Get real.

One of the Bay Area guys (Jason Lui?) had a 10 second GST. It made it onto the cover of one of the sport compact magazines.

Ok, it BARELY ran 10s - I believe 10.9. But still, it's a 10 second car.

Keep in mind that in order to run 10's in a FWD you will need slicks. Most likely large slicks. You will also need an excellent suspension. Also keep in mind that with that sort of power you will be more likely to snap driveline parts.

Either way, it's possible and it's been done.

Don't rule out FWD's at the drag strip. It just requires a LOT more work and a LOT more skill than racing an AWD does.

I think there's something like 80% weight transfer over the back tires during acceleration that hard. My 11 second chevelle used to pull the front wheels off the ground, that's how much weight is transferred. FWD is just plain bad for drag racing. It's the physics dude, it's just all wrong for FWD. Why do you think Buschur racing went with RWD??

99% of the users on this board will never have even a 10 second
AWD.
Building a 10 second FWD street car? No.
Even running a high 12 second 1/4 with a streetable(i.e. no slicks) fwd requires 400 hp.

It is bad for drag racing, but it still can be done. If the rear suspension is tuned right it is very possible. I am not saying that is is as easy as with a Supra, but it CAN be done.

Anyways, if you want to run 10's, you might as well buy a Supra. It would probably cost the same amount to get a 93-94 Supra TT to run 10's as it would to modify a GS-T to run 10's. It's all personal preference.

And my bad, I did even think about weight shifting, I was just making a comparison between the cars each having only 2 wheels propelling the car forward. Been smoking too much of that dank shit...
