<<<You guys suck
AWD will whup your ass everytime, and you all know it.
Tuck your tails and go loose traction.
Bwoowhahahahaha.
Front mount and 20G by summer, anyone want to "freeway race"?>>>

Wow, a mature post from an obviously mature individual. Dude, you need some serious help. On the freeway, not only are you carrying extra weight, but it's also the worst kind of extra weight. ROTATIONAL WEIGHT. You lose power by turning that heavy drivetrain. It's a very simple matter of power to weight ratio. Nuff said. And about your smart-ass little comment "anyone want to freeway race?" I'll GLADLY take your freeway race buddy... Make sure you bring a WHOLE LOT of money. How does me GIVING YOU three cars and the jump sound from a 70mph roll? Will you take it Mr. Big Talk? And about your "AWD will whup your ass everytime" well I have news for you. Rear wheel drive will whoop YOUR ass every time. In the twisties, in the 1/4 mile, on top end, ANYWHERE.

damn... bitter dsmers

Hey tupac, where did you get that mesh for your front bumper? I need the same stuff for my Stillen until I get a fmic.
As for the maturity factor, NosLaser, I don't know if you're an old man or something, but a little trash talk never hurt anyone. 92 Laser? Schwag.
If you happen to be cruisin through Columbus some unfortunate day and you see a silver GSX fly past you, you'll know who it was. If you manage to catch up, you can tell me all about rotational mass. As far as rear wheel drive, I don't know why you're even mentioning it, becuase everyone knows it's the fastest. However, I thought this was DSM talk.com, not Mustang or Camaro talk.

JamesGSX, you have no idea what you are talking about. Do you even know what a 92 Laser RS is? Your going to need alot more than a 20G and a FMIC to run with NOSLaser. Here is a quote from TheDSMShop's page about his car...

"The AWD owners around the shop have nick-named Aslan as "Bakery Boy" because he likes to race from a "roll". It's all in good fun, but don't let the jovial name calling fool you. On the highway is where this car is in it's element. Having beaten Ross' Talon (Yeah, but it's 500lbs. lighter with highway gears dammit!! Now, where did my ego get to?--RL), several Viper GTS's, supercharged and nitrous-fed V8's, and hanging with a modified Lambo Diablo on the highway from 60-150mph, this car's top end is where it gains respect. Down low, it makes for nice smoky burnouts!"

Thanks for backing me up Ecoli...that was very cool of you. How long does winter usually last in your area? When are you gonna be able to bring that beast back out to play?

Maybe get the car running in April. Hopefully most of the snowing will be done by then. My car is pretty unsafe in the snow with my tires. I have a bunch of work to do, to get it to even start though, and it isn't fun working in a garage full of slush/snow/mud/ice when its below freezing. :) The insurance sure is nice and cheap though when its stored. If I am lucky, maybe get it running for the first test & tune day at the track on April 9th. Last year at the first day, there was still some ice on ground in the morning, turbos kinda like 30-40 degree track days. :)

top end I agree but for a road course the awd probably has an advantage over rear wheel drive for the reason that awd allows you to be far more agressive than rwd when it comes to cornering my friend has an rx-7 that car is raw as hell but I prefer my gsx for handling as i can throw it into corners a lot more aggresively and if i start oversteering too much i just give it some gas or if i understeer a little left foot breaking does it. I've spun out that rx-7 a couple of times..it's an excellent car by all means but it's not as confidence inspiring as my gsx

Miamigsx,

I will agree with you it's prolly easier to go fast in an AWD car, because it's much more "idiot proof" than RWD. (Not calling anyone an idiot, simply a comparitive statement) However, when all is said and done, RWD wins even on a road course. It can be more rewarding with really good driving. Case in point, Formula One, Indy, etc ALL RWD.

i have to disagree, if you remember when the btcc banned the audi a4 quattro because it gave them unfair advantage and made them go to the 2wd. if they can use awd, then they would, but they cant, if i remember correct they did have an awd car in old indy or f1 car that was also banned because of an unfair advantage. the main 2 reasons are that they have so much more traction in the wet(duh), the other reason that i remember is that they were able to get on throttle alot sooner/harder exiting turns not having to worry about spinning out. i will try and find the examples, but i did watch the show on speedvision that talked about them.

AWD banning

I have to agree with Miami, and Blunt.

The reason all the fast indy/race cars are RWD is because they don't allow AWD. Audi got banned, and so did Nissan in fact when they were campaigning their GT-R's. I think especially in close circuit Grand Prix's (meaning shorter more winding inner city races) an AWD car would definitely be at advantage.

I don't barely consider oval track racing even racing. At least on pavement :) Same curves at the same mph over and over.. where's the fun in that? Except maybe when you've got 4 cars each with in .05" of yours...

So lets say we have both cars, GST,GSX same mods. mods where both cars are in the 12s evenly (lets just say:)). both do a little highway race from say 60. how much are we talking about as far as car lengths is the GST going to win by? i'm aware that the GST has higher gears and is lighter, but by how much (on a serious note).

Well by the end of a 1/4 mile the GST will prolly be going about 5~6 mph faster then the GSX. So starting from 60 on a highway the GSX launch advantage is gone and the GST should slowly walk away from him from that point on. Car lengths depends on how long you race... the GST should be slowly walking away the whole time.

"My wife raced a 1G FWD three times while going home from a local car hangout (Chicago). The gold Eclipse in qeustion lost badly from the lights, but walked her pretty bad from a roll twice. Not even a month later she raced against the very same car at the track, he ran the exact same time as her"

Hey SAfrican,
I think I know that race :) Did he wave his hand out the window and gave you a thumbs up?

Just keep the times to ourselves ok.....It's not much, but good enough for those cocky turbo hondas to get in the wrong race.....

JamesGSX,

I sincerely hope you don't run into my old Laser I sold to a guy in Columbus....

It looks completely stock, and is capable of chewing up and spitting out your ego. Keep talkin'........

if both cars have the same amount of power at the wheels they'll be able to accelerate almost equally from a roll at the wheels i mean that the driveline lossess have already been accounted for
