ok, im going out in like an hour to buy an oil filter and oil for my car. i just hit 500 miles on my new short block.

i need to know three things:

1. Does the Bosch filter have the anti-drain valve in it? if not, which ones do?

2. Will using a filter not made by Mitsubishi void my 12 month/12,000 mile engine warranty?

3. What is the best weight oil to use on an engine that just hit 500 miles?

Please reply quick... Id appreciate it. Thanks guys!

What do you mean by 'antidrain'? I 've heard about the by-pass valve for releiving excessive pressure in case of a clogged filter and the like. As far as those go not sure if any of the aftermarket filters have it. You know that synthetic is not recommended for breaking in new engines, right? Just wanted to remind you.

yeah, i know about the synthetic deal... im gonna get regular oil.

but yeah, i was wrong... its the bypass valve, or whatever. thats what i was askin about. so bosch and mobil 1 and the others dont have it? hmmm... guess i have to get a mitsu filter... oh well.

What, you expected an answer in under 25 minutes?

Lots of filters have the anti-drain valve. I usuallly use Napa golds or whatever one has the valve, or the premium permulator/perculator/something or other at Advanced Auto. Open the box, and if the smaller holes have a rubber thing behind them, it's anti-drain. Basically, use anything but Fram.

Oil... unless you live in an extreme climate, it's 10w-30 all the way.

Voiding warranties... they'd have to prove any problem was directly caused by using a non-Mitsu oil filter. If you use something with the anti-drain, I'd like to see them try something dumb like trying to prove it.

What's that anti-drain thin about? To prevent filtered oil from flowing back, vice versa or something completely different? I only use Mitsu filters and can hardly recall any rubber behind smaller holes. Guess will look harder into in next time.

Anti-drainback is to have oil in the filter for a cold startup. Lots of people use them just to help keep their lifters from ticking when cold by having them get oil right away.

Basically any oil filter line will have the cheapie filters and then have the one for two or three bucks more with the anti-drainback. If you compare the two versions of the Napa or Permulator/whatever filters, you will see the difference.
