Ok I did a search on this but didnt get a good answer so here goes. I just recently had my car tested because my CEL came on and one of the codes was something about the coolant I think its 125, but he checked my overfill tank and it had oil in it and said my head gasket was probably gone. But if your head gasket is gone wouldnt there be coolant in the oil? There is no coolant in my oil and my car never overheats or even looks like it will overheat. I also saw that it could be the oil cooler but I dont know how to check it. I mean what could it be? Please help.

the only CEL that is coolant related is P0115 which means a problem with the enginge coolant temp sensor.

If you're referring to p0125, that means excessive time to enter closed loop which means there is a prblem with the front O2 sensor.

If oil is getting into your coolant, it almost always means you have a blown head gasket. If there is coolant in your oilm don't forget it'll get really mixed in with the oil via the crank windage and the oil pump, and I think it makes the oil foamy

It's Your oil Cooler

That is the exact problem my car had. It turned out to be my oil cooler. A small little piece that cost me 537 dollars just for the part! You have to be careful when attaching the oil filter or it can crush it, and because the oil is under higher pressure you end up finding oil in the coolant resevoir tank.

I haven't done this but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Bypass the water to the oil cooler by using a piece of hose. If the oil cooler is leaking you should start seeing some oil dripping from one of the oil cooler pipes.

I'd stay off of it while driving the car this way. The oil cooler is on there for a reason.

Well how hard is it to replace the oil cooler? Also how do I check it to see if its the one thats gone out? And how hard is it to change a head gasket? Do I have to remove the timing belt to do it?

Prices

The oil cooler cost me 537 dollars for the part and probably another 70 for labor and it is basically the size of a human fist. It is fairly easy to install though. You can see it by looking for your filter because the filter is attached to it. The head gasket is going to cost you probably a thousand dollars not to mention the other fixes they are going to ask like fixing the timing belt, water pump, ect...

Unless I got screwed over it was definetly 537 dollars. I got it done by an ASE certified mechanic shop.
The ASE certification test is a general test about all cars. But something that most people dont know is, that at just about every mechanic shop, they have a library of chiltons for just about all popular cars :p

I had oil in my coolant as well. Thought it was my oil cooler, but it turned out to be a leaky head gasket. Does your coolant boil at all? If it doesnt boil, than most likely its not your hg because if it was a leaky hg, ur head would be lifting up off the block as to let pressure into the coolant system.

i don't think it boils.. how can i tell? the car still pulls plenty hard and my logger records almost no knock and good timing.. wouldn't this mean my head gasket is ok? my car doesn't smoke either..

Well, why don't you do the test I already suggested. If oil comes out you then know its the cooler.
