Is there an average mileage that the second gen turbo awd cars need to have there motor rebuilt? I keep seeing a lot of them with like 140k on them and was wondering how well these motors held up with being under boost and all... Thanks a lot fellas.

2g? depends on the motor, turbo and how its put to use..obiviously u can make the turbo and the motor last for 140k miles, say if u ran LOW (4 - 8psi) of boost always and never raced it....
as for mileage, it also depends! *notice the words depsnds gets used alot...annoying isnt it?* but really, if the motor was used carefully by some old guy, then it'd last a long time....a small percent of 2g's are prone to the walk the walk as well.... but all in all, rebuilds in average on 1g cars go in for 110k - 160k miles...not sure about 2g's tho!
 
99 GS-T 124K,
0-85K stock boost (~14 with this bad boy, guess it was a new bov thus held longer) T25
85K-98K 16psi T25 (the second one put in at 70K, frozen oil line)
98-124K 18psi on the 3rd turbo (16G) running 18psi always.

I did my last compression test at 122K and the cyl were between 160-175 across the board.

I would be looking for a completely stock 2nd gen so I'd think that it would last longer than your typicaly modded ones but not sure? If I did get one that had say around 150k on it would it be time to do a rebuild before I start to mod the vehicle?

you should be able to find plenty of 2G's that have way less miles than that anyway. You might even find a couple that havent even had their 1st t-belt job yet. There shoulndt be any compression issues at that stage of the game. If you do get one with the miles on it, just have the compression checked before you purchase it to give you a better idea. I did my rings and pistons at about 105k because the comp. was getting a little lower than I wanted. Of course the original owner ran 90k miles of regular oil through the original motor. Moral is, try to find a used car that has had synthetic used in it for most of its life, and has not been beat on too much. Easier said than done obvioulsy.
 
I can say that there never really is an exact range. My 1992 went with 60,377 on it from a balance shaft bearing. My friends 1990 has 225,000 on it with 155 across the board. This is also the car that won Stock Appearing at the S.O. -Ian
 
I do like to think that my 10 year old car is the fastest it has ever been. I can't wait to put down an 11.90 on 93 octance and send the old owner a copy on CD. -Ian
