I'm thinking of trying out some of this metalcast paint (simulates an anodized finish) on some engine parts and was wondering if anyone had tried it out and what they thought of the finish?
Thanks, Chuck

Thanks for the reply. How do you think it would do on plastic trim if I used the metalcast under coat that they recomend? I wanted to do my timing covers and spark plug cover.

used some

I used the blue paint for my 420a. It looks great, I also used some of it for my interior - gauge pod plastic, hvac face, door handle plates, etc. it looks great inside too, just MAKE SURE you follow those directions, i wound up brilloing and repainting 2 items cuz I was lazy. Make sure you scratch up the surfaces a bit to make them a lil rough, that was a big problem too. brillo or those red pad things work good. go for it! worth the few dollars by far

I was thinkin about sanding down my rusty heat shield with some really fine grit paper and painting it with this paint. If applied properly, would it hold up to the heat that my shield would be absorbing, or would I have to go with another type of paint? Thanks...

Well if it's not a high temp paint, it will just burn off. The only thing I have found to work on my heat shield is any paint rated at 1200F and above. That has held up great.

Has the 1200 deg paint realy held up on your heat shield? I have some and would realy like to paint it but I do not want it to burn off in a month or so.

On another note, I painted my parts with the anidized paint (red)yesterday and they look great! Found that the parts look best with three coats of paint. Any less to silvery, any more to red. I did all the timing covers, spark plug cover, oil pan, RRE throttle body elbow and my turbo's 3" intake pipe. I'm considering on doing some interior parts, but we will see.

I persoanly have used EVERY paint on my motor/interior, and regarding the metal cast , i used blue on sall engine bay parts, AFTER painting them silver, you cant do it good over black... i tried, and other light colors are ok as base, but silver works best. and as for heat shield paint, the high temp stuff works great, aluminum color plasticote/duplicolor 1200degree holds excellent, and looks like a polished facotry cover.

the neetest paint yet by far is what i did my entire lower half of my interior and sub covers in, as well as some dash parts.

Plasticote candy/metal flake series metal flake blue... if done well, and clearcoat is applied after.... its nice:cool:

nope, thats about what the blue looked like, its not a thick paint at all, its more or less like colored spray tint for metal and plastic... like i said, if its a light color, or polished silver, or properly primed D: all the above, itll look that good.
