I was reading an import tuner magazine from 1997 where they did a bunch of mods to a 2g eclipse turbo. They picked up 50hp and like 98ft/lbs. Using intake, cat back, downpipe, UICP and 1g BOV, and here is where my question comes in. They did upgraded fuel pump and boost controller set at 20 PSI. Can you even do this safely on the stock T-25 and why would you is there any gain to it? My understanding is that the turbo runs out of power above 16psi, they did say that this 20 psi setup really was only a benefit at RPM's below 4000. Comments and advice people please

all the t-25 does after 15-16 psi is blow hot air

Yes, the t-25 is VER inefficient above 17psi, however, with a decent cooling intercooler, it isnt too bad. When I was running my starion fmic, I would run 18psi all the time (~19psi @ turbo outlet).

Later, I discovered that I had a hole in the core of the fmic, so in order to keep the 18psi at the engine, I am sure that the turbo was pressing upwards of 25psi at the turbo. The car still had decent power, but spool was not very good with that huge leak in there. :(

You can do it? I've seen real good time out of 20 psi with race gas. But if you don't tune for it and it's not good to be running on the street all the time. The reson why it doesn't matter is you turbo can't hold it so at about 5.5K you should see about 13-15 PSI. It work for me.

just to ad, I'm sure the t25 is spinning very fast to generate that, running that high will certainly shorten its life.
I am sure it did, but the turbo is just now starting to show signs of going out (oil consumption)..........btw: I have 106K miles.

i run 17 psi on my t25 with cold air induction and a fmic

the outlet on the fmic is always cold to the touch, and i've yet to hit fuel cut so i'd think its more or less safe. 93 octane...of course when i put all my propane injection together it will be a diff story =)

Well see that's your problem right there. :p
Haha thats what I was going to say..:D

Read import tuner to learn how to make your car fast by adding body kits, lights and wings, DVD players etc etc.

I don't believe these mags for the most part. Look at SCC Galant 4g63 power tuning section. WTF they dynoed 190hp on an awd dyno with a car that makes 195hp factory rating stock? What kind of mystery fluids are they using to make a drivetrain thats AWD that efficient? haha enough said.

itdood is right. I ran my T25 at 19lbs almost every day. It made a difference hot air or not, I ran 14.0@100mph even wrong wheel drive. But it won't last. Mine was under warranty and I went through 3 turbos in about 9 months or so. I wouldn't recommend it. If you absolutely must. Do it at the track, then turn it down when you go back home.

They used a welded center diff, droped off the transfer case, and used a regular dyno at the front wheels.....same way I tuned my Galant VR-4. Simply put, the car is what is refered to as a "factory freak" all the tolerances worked out on the "performance" side.

Then if it is a "factory Freak" that you call it, do you think that it was a wise choice for them to do a dyno cell on a car that 99% of people don't have, and to make claims of hp increases that practically no one will ever see or be able to replicate? I think it's lame if you ask me.

They should've found a "factory Gimp" to do all their mods to so that people could really see what power modifications do to the car.

There may not be a lot of gvr4's but all you dsm's have the same engine, remember. The mods done to the gvr4 work just the same on any dsm. I'm happy they did a build up on a rare car. It's refreshing compared to all the Honda's, you know the car that 99% of people DO have.
