It's simple

3g shouldn't be called eclipses. Its a shame to everyone that drives a 2g. They made one of the worlds niced cars into a fat, ugly sow. Mitsubishi's target custumers for the 3g is people age 35, that should say it all, OLD PERSON car. Can't think of anything good about them, thet're ugly, slow, and suck at life.

I don't know my dad's in his 50's and he's still into racing. I think they were marketing it to women in their mid to upper 30's. Kind of like a V6 Mustang.

Given the facts that :

1. The 3g is heavier
2. The 3g is turboless
3. The 3g sucks

4. GS-T are much lighter
5. GS-T have turbo
6. GS-T's are at least a second quicker on 0-60

it is concludable that :

2G Turbo kills GT's stock.

That's all I have to say.

Re: It's simple

my goodness.

you guys do realize that in order for any company to stay afloat they have to sell cars. and i am pretty sure only 1 outta 5 2g's sold were turbo and only a third of those were awd. now if i were to have a say in anything{providing i was some suit for mitsu} and i wanted to keep my job i would say that the car wasnt doing too well.
and sure in comparison the 3g eclipse doesnt have the upgrade-ability as a 2g. but since mistu isnt really flooding the market with aftermarket parts i dont think they were to concerned.
and a large portion of those 7 bolt motors were dieing. so they arent going to stick with an unreliable motor.
i dont think the car should be so ridiculed. it is a quick car for its class and isnt as ugly to me as everyone else. it does have a tough act to follow...i dont know...it could have been worse, look what they did to the impala:)

Considering the possibilities that the SST concept car had with all of its options that Mitsubishi was toying with you would of thought that the 3G would have been a better car. Everyone loved the SST concept car but what was finally released was nothing close to that. Typically companies have standard cars that they sell in great quantity to make their profits and one or two they keep around to show that their company isn't totally dead yet and to test out new technology on. Mitsubishi seems to have totally gone away from that in the US. Although I can't wait for the Evolution to make it to the US so some of you come up off your cars so I can grab a few up for cheap. Then auto-x the hell out of them.

Oh, I understand that perfectly well. Once again a simple anwser..................DON"T CALL IT AN ECLIPSE, call it a cavalier gt or something.

---no offense to anyone that drives a cavalier!:D

The HP rating on a 3g is at the flywheel. The actual WHP is a drastic amount smaller than that because of the traction control system on the 3g and with the sporttronic it is even more drastic. I know this becuase by better half owns one.

what I am wondering has nothing to do with the 3g. It has to do with why the author brought his GS-T to 4000rpms and dumped the clutch. I would think that this would initiate the built in 'loss of traction feature'. :dunno:

I'm with you on that. As far as I know, the best way to launch a GS-T has always been rev's at 3-4k and then slip the clutch. You just have to play with it right to keep the car from bogging, but not spin the tires. I'd stop launching your car like that or you won't be driving your GS-T until you get a new tranny:(

Oh gawd, dont mention my beloved impala. Luckly, i owned one of the 96 models. The new ones are gay and slow. Anyhow, what you said is onpoint. The new eclipse sells better then the older eclipse and there target market is women. There target market for the previous version were women also, why do you think so many people call it a girl's car.

That post was made very shortly after I got the car. To be honest I've never dumped any clutch on any car before. I said I "dumped my clutch" on the original post because I got my terminology mixed up. and for that I apologize.

When you get to 35 let me know if you still think that's old. The term "old" changes as you get older but I'm 34 years young and I could care less about 3rd gens,I'm all about then horspower plus us "old" guys have cheaper insurance rates. :p
