I have a 95 Eclipse GS as everyone knows it runs the 420A engine. Everyone wants to swap the engine with the GST or GSX engine which is more money than it is worth because of the direction it is mounted. Well with the little knowlage i have I have discovered that the Lancer EVO VII engine is mounted the same direction as the 420A in the Eclipse RS and GS. So is it possible to swap the engines out, put the EVO VII engine in the Eclipse and also will the Eclipse FWD transmition bolt up? And comments, chritisism (exsept on the spelling) would be great!

I don't think it is going to happen. Well, it can with lots and lots and $$$. Also EVO VII engines I assume are going to be very expensive. EVO VII is AWD, I don't think the transmission is going to bolt on. I believe you may have to get the rear differentials off the EVO VII and put it into your car.

Just because it's mounted the same way as the 420a, doesn't mean its going to fit.

Thanks for the replys I am going to research it a little more. I would like to be a firts to do this or second or third, but anyhow, thanks for the input. I just though the EVO VII engine would be an alternative to the GST GSX engine because of the direction of the moter. Anyhow thanks again

LOL

you're best bet would be to get a evo engine and tranny and find a way to modify the center diff so it can act like a welded center diff, but since i believe the EVO 7 uses a clutched center diff this may prove either very difficult or very easy.....

but this thread is pointless, because if you could afford an EVO 7 engine why do you own a neon eclipse, and not an turbo or AWD DSM?

pick a platform where you don;t need to swap a different fucking engine to make any decent power.

for that price you could rebuild the lower end of the 420a and boost the hell out of it.

plus, any engine importer can get them. guy i know just picked up a low miles evo engine/ecu/tranny for not much more than the ebay auctions mentioned here.

Also, theres a guy from www.asog.net putting the evo engine and awd powertrain into an avenger. b/c the motor is in the same direction as the 420a, it makes things easier, but its by no means a simple swap. btw, he also drive a built and boosted 420 sebring, so he just wanted to do something different w/ the avenger.

but like most of these guys said, money wise, your much better off building and boosting the 420a. most of the guys here dont seem to think so, but the 420a responds great to boost. Buddy of mine just dynod his boosted 420a (running 8.6:1 compression)yesterday, @ just 13lbs of boost w/ a s16g, he made 265hp and 299 ft-lbs of torque at the wheels on pump gas :)
