WHY DO YOU GUYS SAY THE SOLO BARICS SUCK????
Have you ever heard them? They sound like shit. They may be loud, but they aren't that loud. If you have ever heard a good sub, such as a IDQ, CMP, MASS, Diamonds... hell even Type R's, and Perfects? If you have, you would notice a huge difference. There is more to bass then just fucking loud, blow your head off. (which most people's stereo's can barely move your hair) I guess maybe the reason we say these speakers sucks, is because WE LOVE MUSIC! You can't get music out of those speakers, you get noise. Noise gives me a headache.

Pretty much they are hype, to get average consumers (the dumb people) money. These people just want it to be loud so they can get people looking at them thinking "WOW, look at that jackass, isn't he gay" Then of course their are those people that are even more stupid that think low = loud, so when they look at the spec's, they are good. Then when they hear bass, they think it's loud.

All that's pretty much stupid. Those subs are for people that want numbers, they want to look loud, not be loud. Ever go to a concert? Ever get close to a speaker? Your ears hurt for hours after, huh? You do realize that some of the loudest concerts are just touching 120 dB's. The average rock concert is 105 or so. Personnaly, I've done some event's that pushed 95 and I had people complaining, and rightfully so, @90 dB OSHA requires ear protection for workers, because those volumes cause perment hearing damage. Now you hit 140dB's in your 1983 buick skylark, and you can actually stand it... what's up with that? Your ear's aren't actually "hearing" those levels, you are feeling them though. If you do it for a while you might start to feel sick, or light headed. You still are doing perment hearing damage; your eardrum is still vibrating like crazy. If I do perment hearing damage, I want to hear something good doing it, not noise.

Sure, I went off on a weird branch, putting out info that wasn't asked for, but it's something to think about when you are considering any type of a stereo.

I have been installing steros for 7 years and now own my own shop, I used to sell kicker and I can tell you that you couldn pay me enough to put that crap in my car. Personaly I run 2 autotek mm10s in a sealed box. If you love music not noise but music go sealed and go with a small sealed box. I run a memphis 1000d to my woofers and a memphis stuido series 4 channel to my mids highs and rear fill. If you are putting componets in your car make sure you get tweets that are silk dome and not tituaniam. and fyi I hit 141db with 2 sealed 10s that are very musical. If you want loud ugly go with a ported 12 and some tituaniam tweets and in a week you will be so death you wont know the amount of destortion you are sharing with the rest of the world. Just my view dosent mean I am right but it is my view.

My sub is a little under-amped, but they sound close
that's your problem. feed them a couple hundred CLEAN watts each, and i will PROMISE you that you will absolutely blow your friend's 12 out of the water.

tens can be, and usually are VERY close to being as loud as a comperable 12, however a 10 will be cleaner, while a 12 will be deeper. the actual sound output will be within a couple dB's of each other if you measure it, and they are both amped correctly.

solobarics suck because they are square. sound waves are round, much like the ripples if you throw a rock in a pond. that's why they sound like crap, there's a much more scientific explaination, but i won't get into that :) the square subs were a marketing ploy, and nothing more. the older solo's were leaps and bounds better than teh new ones, though even those still weren't what i would call "clean". i think redsand hit that one pretty much on the nose! :) and dude with a couple kickers in a bandpass fart box, i'm sure it is real loud, however that is FAR from being musical. a properly designed bandpass box would be so outrageously expensive that it isn't even worth the effort. it probably is loud for about a 20 hz range, but the rest of it sounds like crap, and when you get a bigger amp and blow your subs because you can't hear them distort i'll poke an "i told you so" :p

You might wanna check out the SPL's, they have a sub with 1200RMS for 200. Also, BOSS has a 2000w amp for 299. Thats a great budget system right there. Heres the general rule of thumb i use.

1 10= 2 8's
1 12= 2 10's
1 15= 2 12's

and so on. I know its not 100% accurate, but its a general rule of thumb.
i would highly doubt the ratings on those pieces of equipment for those prices. especially the boss amp claiming 2000watts for only $200. my memphis audio amp ran me $600 and is a true 1000w amp and runs at 1 ohm.

I agree with all the guys that have said square solo-barics blow. They really do. Nothing but noise and the "novelty" of having a square sub. Whoopty-friggin-doo.

Image Dynamics IDQs get my vote as one of the best subs you can get without spending a ton of money. And they perform great in a small sealed box, which is perfect for a DSM's hatch.

In my car I have an Infinity Beta10X SVC (been discontinued for a few years now) in a 0.4 cu-ft sealed box with an older Rockford Fosgate 225.2 bridged to it (550 rms / 625 peak). The Beta is rated at 250 / 1000 and it sounds great. I wish Infinity still made the Beta series. :( Hell I wish Rockford still made their stuff like they made the old point series. No more, they sold out to best buy and got rich. :(

Anyway my point is, you don't need a whole lot to get good sound in one of these cars because they're so small. Get one QUALITY 10 or 12 in a small sealed box (like an IDQ), and buy more amp than you need to drive it. You can always turn the gain down if you buy too much amp (and it'll last longer since you're not pushing it as hard as it can go).

I wish I could be of more help as far as choosing an amp goes, but most of my friends and I live in old-school fantasy land when it comes to our amps. PPI Art series, my old RFs... the list goes on. We all have old good stuff. :D

Ok, alot of good deciding info here. For whoever was originaly looking for subs, did you even look at this link yet? www.audiomobileinc.com These subs simply can not be touched for the $ hands down. Read the testimonial section for more proof, my testimonial is near the bottom of the page and has been there for about 2 years ;) I run these subs with an Orion 2100HCCA and they get 400rms each at 12v or over 500rms each at 13.8v and it's mind crushing :D Check them out, you won't be sorry. Best subs I have EVER had in any car. They are having a year end sale on the MASS series also ;)

the only reason I got these subs was because a friend of a friend needed to get rid of them for money.I needed more bass in my car that couldn't be had by any 5x7's so I picked up these Kickers for $150 in the ported bandpass box and got a nice deal on them.I didn't buy the speakers for audio competitions, they were cheap so i bought them and I'm very pleased with them. The bass they produce is awesome, yea it may distort a little when you turn it up REAL high which i have only done a few times on accident, but listening to it that loud is something i would never want to do in the first place.I've had these speakers about a year and they can take a beating, the previous owner had them hooked up to a 600 watt Optimus amp? i think he said...
I don't think they will blow adding a little more power to them.

FYI, all bandpass boxes are ported ;)

You guys are all wrong......

Pyramid all the way :D

40,000 watts for $100 can't go wrong ;)

Every time I hook my Pyramid Woofer to my Crappy MTX 2300x Amp it blows my woofer. Must be a bad amp ;)

OH fyi some of u guys were taliing about SPL subs, thay are made by poweracustic who seem to be trying to pull their act together after sucking for the last 10 years. They just bought out sound stream which is how the got the SPL label. I have always liked sound stream spls but it looks like they killed the bread =(

rippingsx the point of my post is to explain to pb4ugotobed that these speakers can take a beating, and can handle a little bigger amp to power them.

sorry you could not comprehend that but I tried adding some useful information to help him pick out a set of subs for his car.If you're going to post things in anything other than the lounge, don't post pointless comments like that.I'm not here to start a arguement.

Don't tell me what to post and where to post it. I don't post in the lounge but maybe once a month and post usefull information for the mostpart. Don't start shit with me, I'm not in the mood today. Kickers suck!! Kicker and sound quality can't be used in the same sentence and they cost too much for what you get, except in your case

What do you mean about hit lower? I think you mean deeper sounds right? what would you recommend for one 12" sub? name and model please. Anyone else have any opinions. i have been trying to decide for awhile now but i gave up and its up to the dsm community!!! thanks

I would recommend 1 12" JL w7.

If you read my post I said I didn't want to start shit, you are clearly the only one here starting shit. Why don't you calm down this website doesn't need people argueing over stupid things. And when exactly did I say they had good sound quality, all I said was they have excellent bass.I'm going to go ahead and stop posting to this topic since some people can't keep their comments to themselves.Good Luck with that.

Whatever man  If you would have used the quote button in your first post I wouldn't have asked that question in the first place because it wouldn't have looked like you were posting in a different thread or something.
