Question .. My first DSM i bought ( had 4, have 2 now ) had this really interesting sound to it when spooling up. At first i thought it was normal and all turbo's did it but i found out that i was wrong. the sound was like loud ssssSSSSSS geting higher pitched as rpm increased. sounded almost like a big diesel turbo. to my knowledge the car was 100% stock when i bought it not even a K&N. it was a 91 talon tsi fwd. and i did nothing to mod it. so i asume that it was the stock 14b turbo it had on it. anyone have any ideas on why it had a loud spool up ? maybe somthing was done to it that was not in plain view by just looking under the hood ? I really liked that sound it was awsome ! I want to get it my currant cars to sound like that . ( i have a 1g and a 2g) I ended up selling that 91 and still cluless how it made that sound.

I have been moding my 2G and figure when i set in my 16G turbo it may increase the spool up sound some.

Well when i had the car it did boost very strong and felt nice, wouldn't really suspect a leak even tho it maybe posible.

I sold this car a few years back to a girl that i got to know about 90 miles from me, I do go visit the car from time to time to check up on it.

Now that i am much more knowlegable about these cars i will be able to take a closer look at it and maybe see what it is that is causing the loud spool on my next visit.

CAUSE I WANT IT BACK!!

my laser sounds the same way i only have hacked air can, even when it was stock it was a loud intimidateing low pictched spool up then higher at full boost.

my friends 90 laser FWD also does it.

well that's what i was wondering awhile back, i have the t25 turbo, and completely stock (i think, or else the guy didnt know if it was modded or not) but it spools up pretty dang loud, AWESOME SOUND! :D:D made me proud, but then i heard from around here that it shouldnt be that loud at stock level, but they said it was ok, and completely normal. cuz it was a t25. and sometimes just to be stupid i will lik gas it to there it doesnt downshift and go hard but just to get the rpms kinda going at 2500 to 3500 and slowly let it go up there, (halfway throttle) so the nothing but the turbo will spool. the engine doesnt go and work hard, just the turbo. that way those guys in the civics and mustangs go .. WTF? :D:D:D

I can't remember what year, but some of the 1G FWD's had a wierd box type thing on the upper IC pipe (way out of sight, but it was there).... not sure if this is what got ride of the noise....or it is what caused the noise :)

Fourdoordsm: That box is the cruise control.

My turbo screams like a raped virgin. You can hear it all the way down the block.

It's because of my hard intake pipe that I built. I can swap the rubber accordion on and it's quiet. It's probably because there's a leak somewhere in the pipe. Woohoo :D

I've been told my car is loud. Many people didn't want to race me because they thought I had a bigger turbo. I'm not sure if they just weren't used to a turbo car, or if it really is loud. I can't really even distinguish between some dsm's and mine. I do know you can barley hear some dsm's. If I spool beside a wall, or a moving van its very loud, allmost piercing to the ear??? It might also be a certian way the intake was lined up. I know the AEM intake on my friends crx made a certian whistle when it was installed at a certian angle.

it was connected between the lower ic pipe and the intercooler itself. When it put on my greddy lower ic pipe, I heard a difference. :D Now really hear it better. I bet it'd sound better if I had the FIPK, but I'm cheap for right now. lol.

I have heard of this before in a friends car. He had dealer work and the mechanic took that noise reducer thingy on the MAF off when he had it out, and forgot to put it back on. He gets his car back and all the sudden the turbo is a lot louder.

We didn't know about that then, this was 5 years ago, but we thought it was cool.

A lot of times its hard to say why a car is a certian way, but it's usualy something in the cars past that makes thing a certian way.

and djdigitaldeath....

Going to visit the girl that bought the car hmm.. What exactly are you checking up on? Sounds like your making home visits for an amateur genecology practice if you ask me... :D

My t25 was loud as hell, louder then any 14b's ro 16g's i had heard, my 14b isnt as loud tho.

Seems that most people notice a big differance with hard intake pluming, Where do you get it ? I notice if i was to go it any local performace shops or even to like autozone or pep boyz or somthing they have like 3 pipes all for HONDA i hate that shit ! With all the parts everywhere for HONDA you would think that they where domestic cars.

Ever look in a performance book for exaust and see like 20 selections for honda and 2 for our cars ?

Maybe they all figure that Honda's are the slowest cars and need the most help..

Uhhhhh, NOPE! I know what the cruise is, and this is just a resonator box on the IC pipe. Perhaps it was only on the 95's like ikickuintheball said and I just got the year wrong....

Like djdigitaldeath said, hard intake pipes make a big difference.

Most comes from the fipk though, With my setup my car is very loud. I not only enjoy the sound, it is a safty feature when you are creeping past cars on the highway. I add some gas most of the time if I am about to pass someone or don't think they see me. They will then think a large truck is next to them and pay a little more attention and maybe not change lanes.

It works!!
