Ok, lately I have been thinking about nitrous. My whole life I have been against it. There has just been something about it that has made me cringe and look down on anyone who uses it. Lately however it seems that it has been moving in the import scene from more than just the NA applications that I have been so used to seeing. Lately I have seen it on quite a few turbo applications. We all know it works, and if done properly it can be very safe and very effective. I have seen anywhere from Supra TT's using it to even local DSM's using it. It is this fact that has slowly made me have the thought begin to cross my mind. I have seen a few fellow DSMers on DSMtalk using it such as Nano, who gained a good .7 second 1/4m time drop by using even a small shot (I cannot remember exactly what size it was but I believe it was either a 50-75 shot).

Now I would like to hear your opinions on it. I have more than enough fuel to compensate any nitrous kit that I put on, so that isn't a problem. I just want to hear more from you guys on your pro's and con's of a nitrous system. Don't get me wrong I wont get full nitrous, just a small shot like Nano, if I do use one at all.

I was once just like you. Until I started hanging out w/ Polk. He would put N2O on his focking lawnmower if he wasn't out racing all the time. I've seen him put more N2O on a stock Honda motor than I thought was possible. 2 years of 175HP shot on a stock GSR motor w/ a block gaurd and that's it.

On his drag car we had 100HP direct ported. We were running 8.5:1's and about 20deg of timing. 30psi from a 60-1. No timing retard on N2O; didn't knock, so we didn't need to. The car was a monster on the button. Approx. 600HP w/ the juice.

We had a FWD w/ a 14B running a 75shot. Damn fast. low 11's in the 1000' on street tires. That's a mid 13 in the 1/4 approx. Not bad for a FWD w/ street tires.

Don't take this as gospel tho. Just my experiences. I do know that N2O can lead to a short demise of the motor if improperly tuned. I do however think it's very funny that many people are very against using N2O, but are hell bent on squeezing every bit of power out of a turbo setup. What's the difference?! :)

Good luck on your decision. I highly recommend a wet system. Dry kits leave a lot to be desired.

What's the smallest shot you can get away with on a direct-port system anyway.. 75? Reason why I ask is, my manifold is drilled/tapped/sealed in two places on each runner should I decide to use nitrous or WI... so I might as well go direct-port if I do it.

I have a hole next to each injector on top of the runner, and a hole on the bottom of each runner about 8 inches from the head flange. Which location would be more desirable with direct-port?

Sorry for the n00b questions but I haven't seriously given nitrous any thought or research yet. I'm a nitrous n00b. :D

Keep the opinions coming, I am curious still. I want to hear everyone's opinion. Maybe Gen Tech would have been better since more people go there

By the way my last name is Lambert too :)

NOS !!!

I've been thinking about using NOS. My friend told me 50shot on stock motor is no biggy. I'm thinking of using NOS in conjunction with the FPGreen. What do yall think of this set up?

I thought about useing NOS when I go to a larger turbo like a t4 or something similar. I was looking into computer controlled ones like Venom. I thought that way you could use the juice whenever the turbo is out of its powerband. But this new AEM EMS would be able to contol the bottle also. I would plan to build the motor first though.
just my $.02

There's nothing cheap about using NOS!

I see NOS as a method of reducing turbo LAG when going with big turbo such as FPred or T4 setup. I use it in conjunction with big turbo been FMIC is already a big help. Turbo LAG is inevitable anytime you choose to go with big setup.

What's there to jealous about if and only if you can run safely on NOS? I personally think it's the cheapest bang-for-the-buck out there. With $500 and you can get 50hp+. Even on stock DSM motor, 50shot would help tremendously especially if I go with the FPgreen.

"one dsm guy claimed he shaved off .7s 1/4 using 50shot in conjunction with his big turbo setup"

You decide on your on!

I am running it and I swear by it. I am up to a 100 shot now. Boost creep was my only problem, which I half-assed cured with a window switch. I am a big believer!!!!!!!!!!!!

nitrous is a power adder. I give a thumbs up to people that use it right. It is not cheating.

How about no one calling nitrous "NOS" in this thread from here out.

i've often considered a 50-75 wet shot on my car even though i'm on the 16g. alot of runs i get are from a roll and it'd be nice to have that for an oh-shit factor. i think a alamo sidemount and a 50-75 shot should get me in the 12's with this 16g setup.

I don't like nitrous on any car. It seems so artificial to me. Hit a button and get 50+ HP? That just seems cheap. Plus it runs out and you have to refill the bottle....that sucks.

I agree,it's like Cinderella's horsedrawn carriage. At midnight (when the bottle's empty) then *poof*,your hot ride turns back into a pumpkin.

I like my power to be full time.

Yes, but if you run out of gas, then your power stops too. :p :D

I dont see it being that big of a deal really, just keep the bottle full if you want to use it. :)

Yes I know it's not permanent, but I run high 12's already on my current setup. With nitrous obviously that number would be much lower. I'm not following anyone, I just simply used Nano as an example as he has been around here for a while and had good results, minus that snapping of his drivetrain problem. :) As mentioned all I would want would be a 50-75hp wet shot, and most likely it would only be used from a roll for those fun races. There are a few fast Supras in my area, and it'd be nice to show em up. Or maybe pull an 11 second slip at the track.

I am HEAVILY thinking about getting a 50 shot for the track ONLY. i would like to keep my trans in 1 peice and i know i cant launch at 5-6K on a big turbo like mine with the stock block and tranny. I am hoping with a 50 shot i can use it out of the hole only and save my tranny from the abuse, then get all the times of a great launch using juice.

im 90% im going to do it.

All this work and my bottle is empty. I don't want to try it till I build up the bottom end. I've just heard to many horror stories.
I really like that distribution block... how much did THAT cost ya? :D
