Dejon Tool Upper "L" & "S" Intercooler Pipes with HKS SSQV BOV

Dejon Tool Upper "L" & "S" Intercooler Pipes with HKS SSQV BOV Review

I got mine powder coated in red and the "L" pipe flanged for an HKS Super Sequential (SSQV) blow off valve. Well I have to say the pipes were packaged extremely well when I got them. The turn around time was pretty fast and I recieved the pipes within a week from the day I ordered them.

The build quality of the pipes were very good. They are 2 1/4" in diameter. The free choice of color of the pipes were a nice addition also. However, the paint is easy to scratch so watch out that you dont ding them with your tools while ur installing them.

The install was fairly easy and nothing too difficult. It made installing my HKS SSQV Bov much easier becaue the flange was on the pipe. My only complaint is that the connectors were short. I know everyone has heard about this complaint before, so I will back it up. Though the couplings are short, it is just enough to successfully complete the install. There is really no extra clearance so you must have the pipes and the couplings placed just right or you will get some kind of leak. Which was the problem I ran into. Though it would've been nice if the couplings were a bit longer.

In conclusion I'm very happy with my pipes and recommend them to anybody who wants to use the hks ss bov.

Now on to the pics!

Sorry for this being so long, hope this review was thorough enough. :)

Okay, here's how my rether difficult install happened.
My friend and I started Install of this gear on Saturday at about 5:00 pm. Figured it would take an hour tops. here are the list of mishaps...
1. while removing the fusebox bracket, both bolts broke inside my cars body, Doh!
2. also broke two of the plastic screw things that holds the intercooler cover in the wheel well. no big deal.
3. Received custom red powdercoated graphics after my buddy cut his hand on something while unscrewing the elbow on the flex pipe
4. spent 2.5 hours trying to get HKS C-Clip to go inside flange to hold Valve in place. YOU WILL NEED NEEDLENOSE SNAPRING PLIERS TO DO THIS. woud have been nice to have that in the instructions.

bought a plumbing plug to plug the inlet on my Injen Intake and
after finally getting UICP and S-Pipe installed with BOV, had major problems with driveability, couldn't get over 5000 RPM and after popping the hood, felt an air leak.
retired at about 9:15 to take my girl out for her birthday (heh heh)

after fixing vaccum issue the next day, CAR PULLS MUCH HARDER than before when boost kicks in, major Seat of the Pants difference on low end and midrange, high end isn't much difference, but felt more secure at high speeds (due to lack of BOV leaking). venting to atmosphere currently, waiting for reroute kit from www.wholehyper.com , will compare after I receive it. BOV sound is AWESOME, not quite as scary as the Blitz, but very sweet indeed.
Highly recommend as long as you have the right pliers.
will soon post pics of the installed equipment.

I just got a HKS SSQV also... I got the RB32DET kit though with the stock 1G flange to mount up to my Dave Brode UIP. Mounted beautifully and looks cool.

I'll have to post pics for an alternate mounting for you guys that dont want to spend tons of money on the Dejon stuff...

Right now I'm waiting (Since the 4th) for the recirculation kit to come in from Alamo- after bitching a bit- it should be here mid this week.

I didn't get the KIT though- for $40 its a ripoff.. I spent 12+shipping on the nipple- and I went to Pepboys for a 1 1/4" I.D. 'L' pipe to mount between it and the MAS. Looks like its a ricer radiator hose- but it will do fine after a few nips and cuts.

Let me know if you guys want to see pics of the RB32DET kit on a '98 Talon TSi AWD...

HKS BOV

I forgot to mention about the HKS SS (Super Sequential) BOV. You definitely need C-Clip/Snap Ring pliers when installing this bad boy. Don't even bother trying any other way, unless you think you can pull off some magic. We tried a lot of ghetto ways until we just gave up and bought one. With the snap ring pliers, install was easy as 1-2-3.

It works and sounds great. After having fix the leaks which i thought was coming from my BOV (but really from the couplers on my ic pipes) everything is good. Right now I have it vented to the atmosphere because I don't have the recirculation piece. I'm probably not going to purchase it, but instead make my own. For those who don't feel like spending more money on HKS' recirculation kit you could do what I'm probably going to try in the near future:
http://saadet4.tripod.ca/hksbov.html

My car runs fine even though it's vented to the atmosphere. The car idle fines. No idle surges. And performance is greatly improved over stock with the Dejon Pipes, Filter, and BOV installed. You could hear the sound of the turbo spool even louder, followed by the distinctive sound of the HKS BOV once you let off the throttle.

This is the pic of the HKS SSQV BOV with the housing removed.

The server might be down/acting up. So if the pics don't work, here are the pics of the ic pipes and the bov.

Here are the pictures of the....

Here are the pictures of the HKS RB20DET kit as installed on my Dave Brode UIP. This gives you 1Gers and 2Gers with a Dave Brode UIP an alternate instead of buying a Dejon UIP or cutting and welding on the HKS flange.

Don't think I'm anti Dejon Tool or anything- you can see the CIP-2Gb (intake pipe) and the MBC-2B (Switchable MBC in picture #4) that I have installed.

Recirc...

I went to pep-boys and grabbed a 1 1/4" I.D. radiator hose with a 90 degree bend and trimmed it to fit. The outlet on the 1G BOV and the HKS is 1" I.D.- so it should clamp fine. I had a 1G BOV before the HKS.. The recirc KIT was $40 and the fitting was around $10- so its way cheaper to get the fitting and the hose seperate and not in the kit. The radiator hose was $10 from pep boys- and I have enough left to make another hose for it. (There was 2 90 degree bends in this hose)

I have a recirculation fitting ordered from Alamo Motorsports- since the 4th. Its *STILL* not here yet. It should be here this week though.

As for sound- it has 2 valves- one for low boost, and one for high.. When you rev it and its just enough to activate the low valve it sounds awesome... The high valve sounds a bit 'gassy' though- but its a BOV- so it should sound that way.

If you go to the alltrac web page- it sounds alot like the Supra video at the bottom....

http://www.alltrac.net/media/HKSssVid.mpeg

BTW- Don't think I'm an idiot- I have a boost guage and pod- those other pictures of my Talon were when I just bought it.

Eric - glad the HKS Skyline kit worked out for you.. I've been trying to get the word out that it's the same flange as 1G since I got mine... very nice pics. I have yet to get pics of mine on the car w/ IRC piping.

Very nice looking car too... black DSMs rock. :D

Did you get your BOV from Hidekazu on Ebay by any chance? (guy in Kyoto, Japan that I bought mine from, he sells a lot of HKS and Blitz skyline BOV kits... I was his first DSM customer. :) )

Yep...

Yes I got it off of E-bay- I've been looking for one for awhile now with the RB20DET flange- but it seems they are pretty rare. Ther name you mentioned didn't ring a bell though. I probably paid too much- but it saved me because I didn't have to buy/change the upper intercooler pipe from the 1G BOV. I found one guy in Australia that could get the flange alone for $75 in stainless steel or alloy.

I have yet to find a direct source in Japan on-line that stocks the kits for a resonable amount of money. If anybody does though- get the word out!!!

Eric

I paid a little under $200 for mine, used, from Japan. The retail on the Skyline SSQV kit brand new is something like $450. I couldn't find anywhere to buy a new one for a reasonable price either. I figured $200 was a good enough deal... I just need to take the outer shell off of the BOV one day and polish it up.

It was just pure luck that I found out about Skylines having the same flange.. just cruising Ebay one day and saw it.. got the seller to send me the dimensions and confirmed that it was the same flange. That was Hidekazu, his Ebay ID is "southern_time_piece".

It was funny, I told one of my buddies about it (he's a real go-fast-cheap guy), and he said, "Great, now I know that when I get my Skyline, I can put a 1G valve on it."

UPDATE- Recirc kit...

Update for you guys- The HKS recirc kit finally came in and the sound simply put- sucks..

The high pitched sqeal isn't there anymore........

Just a low barely noticable muffled flutter........

Very disappointing.

I'd use the bootleg do it yourself kit that the link is posted somewhere...

Eric

Eric, Where did you get the RB32DET kit?? I need to get one asap too, I got the dave brode uicp too. Please let me know where you got the kit.

...

I grabbed mine from Ebay.... There is a place online I think its from Australia that has the RB20DET flange for $75 (for alloy), or cheaper for aluminum.

If I come by the site again I'll be sure to update this thread.

Eric

Thanks Eric. Here is a link to show you guys how a HKS bov vent to atmosphere sound on my car. It's a 1 min clip.
