Well it finally went. Over the summer I woul start to notice the dreaded 2G 4th gear problem. It would start by dancing around. Ten it actually started poping out, then it would be difficult to go in, not it just won't go in, if I try, even without grinding, it'll bounce back and forth and just refuse to engage, If I am REALLY PATIENT i can get it in.

The good news is that this is a common prob on the 2G's and I am pretty sure that it isn't the Syncros of the Shift fork, it is probably the Linkage and it needs to be adjusted, every other gear is PERFECT, no probs what-so-ever. I will change my Gear oil with BG Syncro shift, just might as well. I will be tackling this job this weekend, any help ful tips?

ANy easy fixes, I remeber an direct prblemn/fix, I have searched but I cannot find a direct link, any info? Shouldn't be that big of a deal though, I will have some help from my Miami DSM Club members.

hmm well i just lost both 3rd and 4th... could it be the same thing? although i didnt have any problems with them before, it was a very sudden and silent death for those gears. when i put the shifter in the spots for those gears they just dont do anything... like that is not an extension of neutral. some people said it could be a shift fork and wanted like 850 to fix it but i havnt had anybody really look at my car to determine it exactly. if it is a shift fork is that a good price or could it go cheaper? and also if i planned on getting an act 2600 down the road should i just drive my 3 speed now till i get the money together?

$850 to change a shift fork  my god please dont pay that much..

You really only need the 3-4 shift fork ($85), but you should go ahead and get the 1-2 shift fork ($85) as well. Make sure you get some steel ones, not the crappy stock aluminum ones. While you have your transmission apart, you want to do everything possible at once, so you should probably wait to get the act 2600 and install all of these things at once since your paying someone else to take apart your transmission.

hmm drivin around with this like it is... could it do more damage? i'm doing everything right now to keep it calm like dropping my revs like 3grand when hitting 5th so i dont shock the engine. i'm saving gas though lol, already 210 miles and its like just under half.

about the parts... anybody know where to get those? team rip sells brass ones from the evo i think.

Yes, driving around with it like that is bad. Your shift fork broke off completely, so it's somewhere in your tranny. It'll eventually get lodged and possibly crack the bell housing.

I had this happen to me. I broke the 3-4 shift fork on my '99 GSX, had it towed to a friend's place. We stripped my car, and drove it to a dealer to try to get it replaced under warranty. Got denied, drove it back to his place. Somewhere along the way, either the bellhousing cracked and I lost all tranny fluid, or the shift fork just lodged itself badly. Driving along the highway, I hear *POOF*, and the car starts shaking alot. Limp it the rest of the way to find that the tranny threw gears through the bell housing, which was what caused the car to shake.

No salvaging that tranny.

Don't drive it or something will break eventually. I only drove mine for maybe 40 miles when it happened.

I think it is a shift fork, god dammit that sux. No matter, I'll throw in a 2600 while I am at it, I can get the fork for $30 and I'll drop the tranny myself, bout time I did that any ways. It just figures too, I just got my car running better then ever....

.92 volts from 2500RPM's to 7000RPM's at 19 degress of timing at 19PSI, not bad, pulls like a champ, but no 4th gear to drop it into.
