Ok. I changed elevation here, and my settings became all thrown off on my S-afc. Today I finally took the car out and made seriosuly about 12-14 passes back to back down a highway in 3rd gear, logging each pass. There would be a brief stop session between each pass where I would check out the previous pass' log, and see what adjustments needed to be made. Ok. With all those passes my final figures come out to about 17.5psi, a smooth timing graph with a very brief dip around 5200rpms but other than that being smooth and maxing around 6900rpms at 18*, my EGT's hit a max of about 890*C.

Now with all this having been said keep in mind I did about 14 passes overall, and I tell you right now my IC is beginning to become heat soaked (yes even the Supra SMIC gets heatsoaked after that many back to back 3rd gear pulls :)). Ok guys let me know what your advice is, and I will also post up my S-afc settings in about a minute. Thanks

Here are my current S-afc settings:

1000 1500 2000 3000 4000 5000 6000 7000
-21 -22 -24 -24 -23 -22 -21 -20 -High

-5 -5 -5 -5 -6 -7 -7 -7 -Low

Throttle Position-

35%-Low 60%-High

My Max O2 Volt hit was 0.935v

I am JUST above 2000ft asl and the current air temp during the runs was 77*F

Anything else? :)

Does anyone know how I can upload my Pocketlogs online here so you can actually see my curves?

Cant help with the tuning so much, but I can help you post logs :]

1. Open up the java log viewer
2. Control-Printscreen too take a screen shot
3. Open a graphics utility (like Paintbrush, that comes with windows), I reccomend irfanview (search for it on download.com
4. Choose edit and paste, and then the screenshot is pasted into the new document.
5. Save the screenshot, upload it to a webhost, and you can use vB code to post it here..

hope that helps, good luck with the tuning!

I just remembered I dont have the software to upload my M100 files onto my comp anymore. I have the cable obviously, and I just downloaded the Java viewer, but since I dont have the software to upload the files i can't do it. Does anyone out there have the software or a connection that I can get the software from? I have my software back at my old house.

I'm pretty sure you can download the latest versions off of Palm's website.

Ok, got everything working on my comp now, looking damn good.

Ok, I think I am going to go out and do some more logs, what do you suggest me logging? I will make some new logs with the exact parameters you guys would like to see. I usually use just Timing/RPM's, and then use my EGT and look at the Blue wire mod on my S-afc for O2's.

Do you think Timing/RPM/and O2 would be a good combo for a log? Let me know what you think, as I don't think these logs will help me much as you can't tell how my AF ratio is.

Is there anyway to on the graphs from the JAVA viewer, taht I can get the exact numerical increments added onto the picture? I want to copy and paste the thing into paintbrush, but then all you guys get is a stupid graph which doesnt tell you much of anything.

Ok, I just did some more research, looking through past posts using the search button. I came across a post that ProjectGSX had made stating that I should be shooting for 20-22* of timing, where 24* would be good timing.

Others have told me to shoot for 18*. Now I am confused

When I floor the car, what should the timing drop to? When the max RPM is hit, what should the timing hit?

Perhaps I don't know as much as I originally thought. Someone please help me make sense of it.

I also log injector pulse width, knock, air hz, air temp and throttle position sensor. What you have described seems fine. I have read that 20* is about right for timing, and anything down to 15* is ok, but my logs show 21-22, droppping to 15-17 after 6000rpm in 3rd, at boost of 17 creeping to 19, on 93, mid 70's intake air temp. I do not have AFC, so I can't help on that.

Mike Montalvo (pocketlogger owner) sent me the following email about posting logs, but I haven't tried it yet:

"I don't think DSM talk will host anything for you, so you'd need to
have
someplace to upload them to.

You could upload the pdb file, but then the person viewing needs the
viewer
installed.
Or you could take a screen shot (Alt-print screen) then paste it into a
graphics program and save it as a GIF or JPG and upload that.

Or you could just export it to CSV and paste the CSV text into your
post.

So that says no more that 15*. Well it says that if you get more than 15* you can bump up the boost more. So which is it? Heh, I'd really like to know what you guys feel is the best timing to hit on a 2g. Does the max timing differe on a 2g as opposed to a 1g since we have 8.5:1 compression?

As mentioned I'm running about 17.5psi, and my EGT's are JUST barely under 900*C.

Bump

I think your reading about two different tuning styles...

I personally would tune for highest timing, which pretty much means the safest running condition/smoothest running condition. However Im pretty sure lower timing with more boost can be faster...

18psi/22*=310hp
20psi/15*=340hp

I think it all depends on how hard you want to be to yoru car... at least thats how I "think" it goes... for power you want max boost without dropping below 15 degrees of advance, and with smoothness/good to the engine more timing, which means a lil more power anyway...

Any other's personally input?

What should timing drop to the moment you floor it?

On a side note, how does timing react on various other cars, other than DSM's. While I am learning a little here, I might as well extend it to other makes of cars since my logger is OBD-II compliant.
