I just ordered a ported big 16g from RRE. My car is a 99 gsx. My mods are: Big 16g, full 3" exhaust, mbc, bov, fmic, safc, walbro 255lph, ported manifold, ported O2 housing. STOCK injectors, No EGT gauge. what boost level would be safe to run the car at on 110 octane race gas at the track?

Don't get crazy without an EGT gauge or a pocketlogger. I would only run about 15-16psi just to be safe. You can run a liitle more on 110 octane but I wouldn't risk damaging the car.

I recommend you get 550 injectors. That way you can run more boost even on pump gas. I run 20psi, but have seen 22psi in 5th gear on the highway.

With your mods, 18 if its a daily driver, and watch the O2's like a hawk to ensure they don't go below .85, until you get the EGT and logger and can monitor.

If its NADD ( not a daily driver) 21 psi per RRE chart, but you are taking chances at that level without proper monitoring.

I run 17 creeping to 19 all the time on 93 octane to 7K in 2nd and 6.5K in 3rd, with good logs, and 22 on 20% toluene, but haven't logged at 22 yet. I probably need 550's.

thanks the input. I plan on getting 550's, but I just spent tons of money on the turbo and porting. I am surprised that I can run boost pressures that high on stock injectors. I think I will be running 15lbs and no more on or off the track. I should probably see some mid 13's at that level.

Not me... I raced yesterday, it was terrible. I tried to run my B16g at 110 octane with c-12. I was running 20 psi. too much knock on datalogger was pulling timing back passed 9 degrees. Ouch, car wasn't happy.

I got to the track and the car ran terrible with c-12. Was popping all the way down the track. Embarrassing. Ran shitty times with hella mods, I was pissed. Guess I should have experimented a little more before going out to the track.

I leaned out the car alittle and turned down the boost. Kinda went against what the 02's said paying more attention to the popping and the egt's.

Ended up runnin a 13.2 at 18psi. I will stick with c-10 next time.
I sure wish I could've ran 22 psi, oh well. Anybody have ny ideas on how I can run 22 psi w/o too much knock.

Just so you know, I only run 13psi with a similar setup as you (stock injectors) and get 113 injector duty cycle by redline. In other words, not good. You should not go over 85%, but a little more should be ok. I'd say don't go past 13-14 without injectors. My .02

If I were you, I'd get the C-16. What a world of difference. I still have a fully stock SMIC and can run 20 psi with it and see 0-5 knock counts. Otherwise without C-16 I have to run 15psi on Sunoco 94 with really high SAFC settings. I've been getting my C-16 for $7.00 a gallon. Look here for more info:

C-16 huh??? 100% c-16???

I don't know what happened to my car but it was running like ass. I figured it was probably the race gas.

I understand tuning concepts, but I have a lot to learn. I appreciate all of the help.

Also, how bad is leaded gas for 02 sensors?

Another thing, my 2G datalogger doesn't sense knock counts. All I see with it is how far my timing is being pulled back.

How far is your timing being pulled back at 20 psi???

From what I understand, as long as your not being pulled passed 15 degrees all is well???

I was seeing 8 deg.

One more thin kind of off the topic. When I was launching my car was popping quiet a bit. Why is this, any ideas? It was also popping a little bit right when I would shift into second?

When you run race gas do you have to lean it out quiet a bit?

What do you need to change on the afc settings?

I would imagine that you have to lean it out quiet a bit for higher octane, correct?

What you should do is:

Get your car tuned pretty well at a certain boost level on pump gas. Then put in race gas and turn up the boost some. Then you should still have a little leaning out to do.
