Well, I am ordering my BOV and UCIP this week and been trying to figure out which one I want. I have narrowed it down to the HKS SS with recirculation kit or the GReddy type-s.

My main question is; people with the HKS circulated, how is the sound on it compared to stock? Some people say it is loud, some say quit, and some even say recirculating it eliminates all the sound from the bov. Does it still sound as good as it does in the clips?

If anybody has anything to add on reasons to/not get it tell me...

The cheapest I have found on the BOV is $191 from suprastore.com (know of a place cheaper).

I plan to use the dejon tool ic pipes unless somebody can tell me another brand that has the hks flange already on it that comes in a shiney silver finish for cheaper.

I have the hks ssq bov and at first didn't recirculate it and loved the sound..it was so loud. But now I have it recirculated and can barely hear it. It's not as quiet as stock you can hear it a little, but nothing like it used to be(I can't scare people anymore) :(
I've never had problems with it and think it's worth the money.

hks

i too have the hks ssqv bov. i like it and it does the job well. right now i have it vented to the atmosphere because ive been lazy to make a recirculation piece for it. yes, make it. I'm not gonna spend a grip to buy it from hks, wen y ou can make it for almost nothing. here:

as for the sound, the sounds of the hks ssqv bov vented is very nice. i love it, and so does everybody who has ridden or heard my car. it holds boost well with mysetup and doesn't leak.

as for the upper ic pipes i have them on.. i have them on the dejon upper ic pipes which has the hks ssqv flange already on the pipe. i have done a review on the bov and the dejon pipes. you can read it here, let me know waat you think:

i actually have the same setup as Red, I have the recirculation kit....but have never put it on, it's just sitting around here as well as the purple sound insert (which I've also been too lazy to install). Everyone tells me that the trademark HKS sound is muffled greatly. I haven't run into any problems leaving it vented for now...AND YES I KNOW I'M RUNNING RICH

Sucks..

I just installed my recirc kit that I got from Alamo motorsports- took 1 month to get in the mail...

Sound now sucks..

You can barely hear it- and when you do its a dull flutter..

I'm disappointed. :(

If you mind it that much leave it vented and get some type fo fuel control. The S-AFR claims they can deal with this. I have the S-AFR and I can't see any difference.

...

Anybody want to make me a 'homemade' recirculation piece for my HkS? $20 in it for you........... I have zero tools laying around here and want one made that looks pretty decent- while still keeping the fins for the cool sound.

I'm going to pick up one of these BOVs and I'm going to make my re-circ fitting similar to the FAQ, only problem I see with the FAQ is that it still leaks a little. Maybe I'll make mine out of metal and with some kind of sealing mechanism such as an O-Ring

That depends on when I find a good deal on the valve, if you want email me and I'll let you know if I come up with something. I'm pretty good with the tools, but this can be done nicely by someone with a CNC lathe.

Dimensions...

If you need any dimensions of the original recirc fitting, let me know..

I can measure it up pretty easily- but it seems you wont need one at all to make a new one.

I like the O-ring idea alot too.. If you do make one- let me know.

I made that piece and the sound is about the same. Nothing like it is when it is vented to atmosphere. I think the sound is killed by recirc no matter which metohd you use. I built mine and used some sealant and had no leak. If anyone wants it PM me since I switched back to the HKS kit.

cheapest best bov possible. 1g with dejon stop leak kit.

The reason I got this BOV and why other people may as well is that it is a pull type BOV which means in theory this valve will never leak. With this type the more pressure there is the tighter the seal is since it is pushing it closed unlike the others like Greedy and such that are push type and therefore when going to big boost they can and as some people have found will leak which forces them to tighten the screw more which could in turn make it easier for compressor surge since now it requires a bigger pressure difference to push the valve open. I had a Greedy on my first DSM.

ANother question (as I am also considering the HKS SSQ)

How is the re-circulated sound compared to a 1st gen BOV?

Since that is being re-circulated as well, if the level of sound is about the same, it won't bother me as much :) (as long as I can still hear it, and the cops don't have any extra incentive to be curious)
