ok, this probably has been asked before, so i apologise in advance, but which generation, modified in the same manner [parts] has the higher handling capability, i have only owned a 1g and never driven a 2g hard, so i dont know...

do you mean handling as in gripping the road or power handling?
1g have the bigger turbo but 2g have higher compression but also the 1% chance of crankwalk. i may be biased becaUSE i have a 1gen though. :dunno:

i meant as in road holding in modified form, as ive never driven a 2g hard because ive never owned one, but i had a 1g and i still like how those look better, so im biased in the 1g's direction as well...

are you saying a 2g would be better for autocrossing then a 1g?

or is a 1g capable of the same cornering a 2g is?

2G's are by far superior with their ability to have fast spooling turbo's like the T25 (yes, the T25 is better than the 14b for Autocross), and the T28 varients.

They also do not have the 1G plague, which is power steering cut out at high speed. Anyone who's ever autocrossed a 1G knows what that is.

what he meant is that the power steering is speed variable, but not road speed, engine speed. as rpm's rise the power steering assists less...

if you corner at high rpm the power steering wont assist

can this be avoided or by switching it with a 2g power steering computer or something?

why does it do this and is there a work around for it?

a lot depends on how far you are willing to take a suspension set up. check out TNOMUD. he is a member with a WORKED 1g and i bet his setup will walk on most 2gs here. 1gs are good nice since they are cheap and you can cage them up if youre into seriously cornering (lot less than a 2g)

TNOMOD what is that?

Check www.vfaq.com for the 1G power steering cut out fix. I did it and it works like a champ! No more steering cut on the autox course. I found the tubing at a hobby shop, use the size stated on the vfaq page.

I autox my 1G very sucessfully in ESP. What a great, warm, fuzzy feeling it is when you whoop up on V8 muscle cars! It would take alot for a "Nationally" competitive 1G, but for your average local autox, you should be fine.

thank you for the link and i might be doing this modification very soon :)

what is ESP?
