I want the best flowing cat out there besides a test pipe. I'm looking for one that looks like a CAT, and flows close to a test pipe with some restrictions. Don't bother to tell me to hollow out a cat. I heard OBX is like that. Any suggestions???

I have a Catco cat. Very high-flow.
I also have a catco from AHP, I did some very sientific testing(blowing throw it) and it seem like there was almost not restriction at all. But, I just got a check engine light the other day on the freeway for a bad cat, even though mine is brandnew, so I either have a bad O2 sensor, or a faulty cat. I'm leaning towards bad o2 sensor, but I'm not sure yet.

So how do these "hi-flo cats" differ from a stock cat other than just inlet/outlet size?

I just put my stock cat back on to control boost creep with my big28,now I can run 18 psi without creep and it gained quite a bit of power over running 15 psi with a test pipe and getting bad creep.

My opinion is...all "hi-flow" cats are pretty much the same. Random Tech. happens to charge a lot more than the others. I do remember reading a shootout comparison somewhere (can't find the link) and Random Tech did have the highest flow #'s. The second place was CatCo, and dead last (after 3rd and 4th place) was Dynomax.

If you want to go cheap, chop off the ends off the stock cat and weld on appropriate sized ends to match the rest of your exhaust.

Personally I think a cat is an ugly way to solve boost creep. I'd rather use the money otherwise spent on a hi-flow cat towards a tubular vented o2 housing, external wastegate or larger flapper if you want to fix the boost creep.

When I researched Catalytic converters a while back it looked like there were three or four high flow cats that might be useful.

Random Technologies
Car Sounds
CatCo
Marmont

CatCo sells lots of different cats but only the 2600 series could be considered high flow. Since CatCo isn't on the web I called them and they claim higher numbers than Random for the 3" Cat.
Hahn used to sell Random but switched to Marmont. I never sound out exactly which model but Bill Hahn claimed the Marmont flowed just as well and the Random but was much less expensive. That thread in the archive here somewhere.
Car Sounds seems to be popular in other auto circles and has some interesting features

Dynomax didn't seem to make anything in 3" that would fit in the same space as the stock cat.

I haven't bought a new cat yet but for the money I figured the CatCo 2606W (2.5") or 2607W (3") seem the best choice. The W suffix means without an air injection pipe.

I run a Maremont High-flow cat. I got it from HRC. When I spoke with Bill Hahn Jr. He told me that with there experience, the Maremont application that they use flows as much as Randoms cat,if not more. He stated that they switched to maremont because the quality was good, they held up well, and they are definately cheaper then Random. He also stated that they have had cars run in the mid to upper 11.xx second range while having the Maremont cat on the car at the time of the run. The application that they use flows about 3+ times the amount of air that a stock cat flows. Hope this info helped some. :)
