The New AEM EMS is now slated to be released in late April. I am just wondering if this thing is going to be worth it.

I am also waiting on the AEM to come out so i can finish putting my car together. I have been told by CTC motorsports that it should be out mid march. I have also been watching the supra forum thread about the AEM and acording to Jason the designer it goes like this the supra version will be out next then the rx7 and then the DSM so we will see. And as you know the honda/acura one is out already but thats it.

I know of someone that is testing a unit for DSM's right now and the feedback is VERY good. I'm sure it will be released as soon as all the data is accululated and everyone is satisfied with the results. It will be well worth it!

The car I know of that is running it is well modded with a Frank 4 and full supports. I will check on availability on Monday. I hope it is soon as my car will not run without it!

Hey, I called AEM. The EMS for the first generation cars has been shipped. Another batch will go out this Friday (October 14nth).

This day has been long in coming.
Ive had my AEM for 2 weeks already :p :p :p

Haha, suckers! Im 0001!! Whos wins? Huh? Who win???

Seriously though, its awesome. The only problem I have is that knock app[ears extremely insensitive. Mines flat at 0.0195 almost to red line then some little spikes. I don't like the look of it at all.

i'm seeing a lot of people comparing this to the afc or the power fc, etc. etc. but not really seeing anyone comparing it to the dsmlink (besides someone talking about the price comparisons). now i'm looking at the dsmlink site and see a lot of good features and i'm GUESSING that it wouldn't be anywhere near as hard to figure this thing out unlike the aem. plus you still have datalogging features, stutterbox, can disable trouble codes you may be getting, etc. etc. now of course there may not be a million variables you can do with the aem but i also don't think you'd have as big a headache just to try and get it to run properly. also for those of us that already have a 95, we're good to go on the eprom issue. also, no need to buy a wideband, etc. either. thus less expensive as well. i'm either getting the aem or the dsmlink but leaning more towards the dsmlink just because it still has good features without all the headache. what do ya'll think? just looking at other viewpoints between the 2 systems (being that i have neither as of yet).

p.s. the only reason i may not get the dsmlink is for the fact that i don't think i could remove the mas without getting a vpc in addition to this system. still making up my mind.

For everyone saying that the AEM EMS is going to be a big headache because there is so much and they dont know if they can handle, have you ever tried reading? I mean how do you think that people learned how to use these systems. My guess would be reading and hands on experience. Thats what I to do. Just ordered a few books because I want to put the AEM EMS on my car, but I also want to be able to tune it well.

If anyone is looking for a good book a lot of people have told me to read:
Engine Management: Optimizing Carburettors, Fuel Injection and Ignition Systems (Haynes High-Performance Tuning Series)

I hear it is a great book to read for anyone thinking about buying an AEM EMS. This post was in no way meant to be mean spirited, just trying to help everyone out.

Also try out http://streetmodified.org/books.html , it is a good site with many good books on it. I got all this info from the AEM EMS forums so check them out too.

uhh... Don't think for a minute that you don't need a wideband to tune with if you have DSMLink.

The air fuel ratio displayed by DSMLink assumes accurate air flow and fuel delivey. That means a stock mas which hasn't been "altered" in any way, stock fuel pressure, and a properly adjusted DSMLink.

If you want accurate air fuel ratios, use a wideband... and yes you can even log it with DSMLink.

Regardless of your engine management/logging choices, a wideband is a very wise investment.

hey hal, are you by chance the same hal from colorado dsm? just wondering. if so, i remember when you bought the haltech and was having some tuning issues. not sure if you ever got them straightened out or not though. if you're not him, oh well.....same name, different guy i guess.

but anyway, issues such as this are things i'm trying to avoid. i don't wanna have any problems with tuning issues. i like simple (when it comes to this anyway). i don't wanna read a book for a year before i can start using the thing. i hate reading (the internet is as far as i go). yeah, so, i'm lazy. but i just hate reading. if you play a video game, do you like to read a manual all day? or do you just wanna be able to sit down and be able to play it? bash me all ya want, but that's just the way it is for me. i'm not a book nerd. sorry!

anyway, do ya'll not like the dsmlink or something? i didn't hear any comparisons there. just that i should pick up a book or that i'd need a wideband for better a/f readings (of course i do appreciate the info on the books and the wideband info though). just didn't really tell me what anyone would think about it compared to an aem....must i really start a new thread? just figured i could bring it up as well since people are bringing up the apexi afc, power fc, haltech, etc.

okay, so let's say i have to get a wideband for the dang thing. it's still cheaper than an aem, i already have a 95 ecu, and i would THINK that this system would still give some pretty good features....maybe not as complicated as the aem, but better than the afc. or at least so i would think. but is there really that many more features that i'd use a lot to warrant spending that kinda cash if a dsmlink would do what i need? i dunno so that's why i'm trying to get comparisons. anyway, maybe i'll get some opinions. laters!

Everyone here is trying to compare the DSMLink to the AEM when they are really different things. The DSMLink looks like a really nice peice and if you want to keep things really simple and something a little cheaper then thats probably for you, but if you want to step up to an easier standalone then you would want something like the AEM EMS. To my understanding the DSMLink is like an SAFC, ITC, and datlogger rolled into one with a few extra features, but an AEM is a standalone engine management system and that is the main difference between the two and thus the price difference between the two. I think that they are meant for two different types of people. DSMLink for people like v8s_are_slow (not trying to single you out) who will sacrifice some features for an easier time and then the AEM for people that are more serious with tuning and such. So people have to just decide what is right for them. Just my thoughts, let me know if i am wrong about the DSMLink.
