Today I installed an AEM Cold Air Intake.

the first time I started it up after I installed it it died.
Then I cranked it over again and it ran fine.

I drove home. went into my apartment.
about 2 hours later I went to go out and drive my car.

It died again. After a few laps around my apartment complex it idled fine.

It's starting fine revs jump to like 2k like they do when you start it up. Then they fall to like 250 and sometimes it just dies, and sometimes it catches itself and goes back up to about 850.

I had to remove the battery to install the CAI. Do I have to do something to the ECU to make it not get pissed that the air is different?

thanks

Make sure your connections are all tight and there is no air leaking. Then set your ideling screw. You might need to adjust it a little bit.

My idle is fine i think. Because when it catches itself it goes back up to the correct idle speed.

this only happens when the car if first started. after it warms up a little it works fine.

Then set your ideling screw.
I don't think rs's have biss screws:confused: .

A trick I have found for helping my car learn faster is:
Drive highway speed and put the clutch in-the car will stall. Let the clutch out and the car will come back to life.

I keep doing this for a while until the car learns to catch itself by dropping idle and not stalling. After the car learns it will stop stalling at stops. It is a faster learning curve than city driving.

I think it works IMO.

Okay, it's slowly getting better.

It still does it when i first start up.

after I rev to make it catch itself a few times it'll idle fine.

it'll sit there and idle fine, but once I start to drive it bogs again.

is there something I'm missing?

I tightened up the throttle cable a little bit when I did the CAI, but that wouldn't make the idle go down would it?

thanks

I woke up this morning and it did it again.

Car would barely start. It wouldn't start unless I gave it gas when i started it. And it wouldn't stay on unless I held the gas down a little bit.

after about 3 minutes of "making" it idle. it decided to idle fine.

then when i went to drive away as soon as I stepped on the clutch, it stalled again.

this is driving me nuts. I can't drive it like this, but i don't have another car to fall back on.

ALL ideas are welcome..except the ones that say "buy a new car"

thanks

Anything else in the mean time?

which fuse is that?

what is it called on the fuse box cover?

Someone else will have to help you with that, I just know its there. I think it has to do with the radio presets etc and memory.
Take a quick look inside the car. Check for voltage on both sides or pull the fuses out and manually check.

Your car should have been fixed by now...?

I pulled the 2 fuses that are under that yellow cover looking thing in the engine fuse box. They both aren't blown.

I know it should be fixed by now. Thats why i'm freaking out about it.

I just had to have the timing assembly replaced because i snapped the belt. I can't afford anything else on this car.

when i installed the CAI I tightened up the throttle a little bit.
(took the slack out of the line)

could this be a possible cause?

That is a good price if its the wright part.
Why did you adjust the t cable?, If you made it to tight maybe the would throw a code because the ecu reads more % than normal.

For 25$, go for it.

After my reset of the ECU and about a day of driving, the problem went away. Great huh?

BUT, today...days later, it came back.

I started it up this morning just fine.
Drove to work just fine.
Drove to Subway just fine.
Tried to start it after Subway, revs just drop.
Tried twice, third time it started.
backed out of parking space, stalled/sputtered,
drove to leave parking lot, stopped....stalled/sputtered,
after I got on the big Road, and stopped at a light, it was fine.

What is going on?

How could It be fixed for a while then mess up again?
The only difference today is that the sun came out. No difference in temperature, just sunny today.

HELP!!!

Mine does it sometimes too.
For me its becuase i have a vacuum leak.
Just go through and check all of your connections.
Check yoru CAI to make sure everything is snug.

It doesnt really sound like it on your car but on my old probe it would barely start and idle really rough. I had to replace the fuel pump on it. Just a thought.
