So I guess that the sub company we run inside of the Aerospace company I work for is "fake" even though it has the same officers, and address and it's wholey owned by the parent company and run inside the parent company's facility. Funny, the government seems to think Thread Rolling Inc, is it's own entity...The employee's paychecks say "TRI" on them too.
I didn't say anything about them being fake, nor did I remotely imply it. If you want to draw obviously false inferences, be my guest. But do me a favor; don't attribute them to me or ask me to answer for them.

I was even going by his own criteria of a "separate" company, none of which are satisfied by Lexus or Infiniti.

I guess some people will always believe the sky is orange.

This thread really has gone far enough. No one is making new arguments, Lexus for all legal purposes IS a different company, albeit one whose sole purpose is to market upper end Toyota products. Still, Lexus' cars are distinct in many cases. Jay Hass does have a point, sure the ES 300 is a Camry but it's an entirely different driving experience having driven them both. In today's auto industry based on the standards that have been established there would be about seven or eight companies, General Motors, Ford, Honda, Toyota, Volkswagen, Fiat, BMW, and Mercedes. So far as I can tell nearly all the rest of the world's auto "manufacturers" are nothing more than puppets of their respective owners. Yet still many of them manage to produce a product that no matter what you say is distinct enough for people of the world to buy them instead of their corporate "cousin". Either way I don't really see how any of you are making new arguments, even RNN14GTIR the moderator seems to have fallen pray to an opinion based argument on this thread. We're all saying basically the same thing with different slants so lets just let it go.

Well you can say or think whatever you want, but Infinity *IS* it's own company. It may be wholey owned by Nissan but the FACT is, it IS it's own entity.

We went through this on the SE-R mailing list. The 98-99 Sentra SE has pretty much all the SE-R hardware on it (The SE-R was discontinued after 98) and the guys would say it was an SE-R and us SE-R owners would say "no it's not". Well the FACT IS the car is a Sentra SE. Regardless if it has the exact same hardware doesn't change what the car IS.

Same here. Regardless of what you THINK doesn't change what IS.

Evil: I agree we are just going around in circles and it's coming down to symantics now.

The whole thing started when someone mentioned that the G35 and 350Z would be competing with one another.

The answer to that is IMO they are distinct enough to remain independant. Either way they are great cars, and it's great to have the Z car back...in it's original conception.

Oh Red, my mistake.......Nissan is owned by Renault now. I forgot Renault. Fiat owns Ferrari and a few other companies if I'm not mistaken which would mean that they are probably a larger company than Nissan. Since we brought that up I also forgot Subaru but whatever, it was a rough list.

I would assume that the G35 will sell for much more just because it's an Infinity.

It will be interesting to see. I don't think equally equiped the price will be much different. The full option luxury Z will sell for mid 30's and that's about where the "equiped" G35 is. In fact the Luxury Leather Edition starts at 30K.

Keep in mind the G35 also has four seats. That adds value to the car as well.
