Danthaman already got the good valve cover off my old head .
The one that is on it is dans old cracked valve cover . I asked him to put it on there so as to keep debree out of the head .

Hey guys, I'm the one that ran Frank. His car is pretty quick, and my car is a POS. I'm crankwalking again, I've been crankwalking for awhile now, but I kept changing the thrust bearing (man what a damn good mod).

Anyway, a few posts back, I thought my clutch was slipping. It slips here and there, not all the time though, but recently it's getting worse. I took it to my mechanic and he said it's cause the crank is moving alot more now, and sometimes it'll cause the clutch not to grab fully, and sometimes it will. Also, the clutch has some wear on it, and that I should stop racing and give the car a break.

Right after I left the shop I raced Frank. Other than spinning out in 2nd, the shift to 3rd was horrible but I couldn't notice it since I thought I had my 300lbs friend in the car was the problem. But then I kept leaning out in 3rd, that's why I kept letting off. Frank was on 104 octane, and he had the weight advantage over me, since a 1g AWD weighs a little over 2800lbs, 2g FWD weighs a little over 3100, I weigh 220, my friend weighs 280. Frank and his friend probably weighed 300. Time to gut the car, hehe.

Also, if you guys are thinking that I'm just making up some BS excuse about my clutch slipping, ask Frank about the RX-7 he ran. Off the line, even with his AWD advantage, he lost to that RX-7 by about 2-3 cars (he did give the RX-7 the go from the line though). I ran that same RX-7 from a 30mph roll, and even though I spun all through second, he got me by like 3/4's of a car in the middle of fourth.

And for the record, Frank beat the shit out of me off the line. All the other times from a roll, I would jump ahead 1-2 cars and then the shift to 3rd he would pull a little, then I let off due to lean-age. It's confirmed now that my clutch is gone. We put a 50 shot of nitrous on it and turned down the boost this past weekend, and that shit didn't go anywhere. Just sat there and revved. Good thing it rained, so I wasn't all that depressed. I'm saving up for a 6 bolt now :(

Another thing, I don't know why my friend was talking mad shit. I told him to tone that shit down, and I didn't much want to race that night due to my clutch. That's why for those of you who were there, I didn't have my car the first time I was there, my friends convinced me since I was doing a motor swap might as well have some fun with the old motor. So I went to get it, and my friend's dumbass started talking all kinds of shit.

I doubt its slow, you just has some issues. If you had an additional 500lbs in the car with you, thats alot of freaking weight, not to mention tenths. I know how you feel sometimes. It takes my car forever right now to spool and puts me behind even versus some slower lightly modded cars, but once it does spool, its all over. I personally just need to get a tune and turn up the boost some :> Sorry to hear about your Cr (cough)walk. I got myself a 6 bolt block ready to start building up just incase.

Andy - if you want to give the polishing a shot on my Hyundai valve cover, let me know. I could meet you over at ARD, or possibly at the spot on westheimer. Let me know. I have to swing by ARD tomorrow anyway, so let me know what you're up to.

Thanks

I'm not sure really.. I have to exchange an alternator tomorrow (I managed to find a dead core + someone with a lifetime pepboys alternator.. so I'm just gonna be sheisty and exchange it at pepboys). Then I can take my 100A alternator off and send it in to be replaced. I don't know if I'm gonna work on it tomorrow or not though. I also have my MSD that I want to install, but I don't know if I'm gonna screw around with it yet.

I'll probably go up there around 3 or so, I'm really not too sure though. Are you going up there any time in particular?

Yeah I know how you feel. I've had issues with the car ever since. My 18g fully spools at 4300 RPMs, and I've heard of 20g's that spool faster than that. I have no port work whatsoever done to the car, so that's probably a good issue. My friend is selling me his 1g motor with 9:1 pistons and shotpeened rods, I think I'm going to buy that. But someone told me that 9:1 CR sucks on regular pump, and I'm going to be detonating like crazy unless I run 104 24/7. Anyone know anything about this?

The higher compression just means you have to be more exact with your tuning. You might have to back the boost off some too, but you'll still make the same power. The thing is, pump gas can only support so much cylinder pressure, no matter how rich you run it. You can get to that max cylinder pressure with higher compression ratio or more boost. So when running it on pump gas, you'll have to turn the boost down a hair and be exact with your tuning, but you won't be limited to running race gas 24/7. You just have a smaller window to tune it right when you go higher compression.

Personally I like the 7.8:1 compression because the tuning window is a lot easier to work with.. but that's just me.

Yeah I would prefer the stock 8.5:1 compression, but my friend is selling me the whole car with the motor, tranny, and everything (the body was hit on the front and side) for a damn good deal that I don't want to pass up. And he got his motor built at Inline Racing, who's going to mess with this motor as well. So I'm going to jump on the deal, but I don't believe I'll have the money to rebuild the motor again. But we'll see what happens. Thanks James for the info.

9:1 is no big deal as long as you keep an eye on what is going on with your motor. check your plugs, o2, egt's, and such. i am going to be running 9:1 on mine here shortly too. should be a lot of fun to not need a turbo to be able to accel.
