93 Celica GT goes down (yea I'm N/T)

Well after weeks of smack talking about "my celica is faster, i would race u but I need rotors" and "ur eclipse is kinda fast but my celica is faster, we would race if I didn't need tires " I finally got my friend to break down and race me..
Stats:
she has a 93 celica GT that is completely stock.
my 97 gs has the mods listed in my sig
we are both 5-speed
We did this from a complete stop 2 times at what we estimated to be a little over 1/4 mile. the road went up hill then down hill but not more than 20 degrees at any given time.

First time I bogged and she had about 1 1/2 lengths on me but once I hit 3rd i pulled like a freight train and it was over I left her by almost 2 car lengths.
Second time I got a better start and her tail lights were even w/ my bumper until 3rd then same thing.. it was over..

Yea u turbo guys are gonna give me trouble for this but it wasn't too bad for me since I need to put my cat back on (From now on im gonna tell people w/ "intake" as their mod list to LEAVE THE CAT ON .. but that was a given. my low end torque is as bad as a Honduh right now...

Bring on N/T Jokes.. :)

haha nice.. I was thinking more in the line of "we race for grocery money... not pink slips.."

Thanks.. I finally got her to shut up about the "my car is faster and I would prove it if.." BS although now she's claiming her clutch is gone. (How she left me like that w/ a burnt clutch is beyond me...)

"1993 Celicas came with a choice of three engines, depending on model: a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder in the ST; a 2.2-liter four in the GT and GT-S; and a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder in the All-Trac. All except the All Trac might have either 5-speed manual shift or an optional 4-speed automatic transmission..... The dohc I4 2.2 is rated at 130-135 Hp"

Not too HUGE a difference since the 97 GS is rated @ 140 stock (which I think is exagerated) but I didnt say it was a fair race I was just trying to shut her up. They aernt too bad on the takeoff though.. maybe I just need to practice my launch.

(also note the difference in displacement, I don't have figures on torque but I assume they reflect the larger displacement relatively..)

I had raced a GT-S celica once, a 92 or 93 i believe, it was awhile back, i raced it with my 1.8 LASER! yes you heard it. it was from a stop. he was auto, i was manual. both stock. (i wouldnt mod a 1.8 for nothing)

we took off and i was ahead a good 3 cars! (dont ask :confused: )
and then once i hit 2nd gear he literally FLEW by me, like i had hit the brakes with all my strength... man. it was emabarrasign. oh well, still fun.

actually he did admit it was a POS at take off, something about his tranny. and i think i might of exaggerated on the 3 cars... maybe 1.5 cars LOL. but still either way. SHOOSH. not the sound of the almighty dsm turbo, but the sound of the toyota engine flying by me... man very depressing

N/T bashing

Now, its not nice to bash an Nt...
i raced a 92 tsi, with my 92 es... and the only mod i had was intake, and he was stock, it was a rolling race, started at 55... and i was in front, he could not get past me, it was like a quarter mile, streatch to the top of the hill, and as soon as it opened up, i dropped to 3rd, i was going 50mph, ran 3rd to 65, grabbed 4th and held it, and by the time i was almost on top of the hill, he was trying to get around me, and just barley made it, i had to slow down so he could get around before the blind spot, top of hill...

i am thinkin,
either he dont know how to drive, or he had a pigeon stuck in his intake....................

and this dude mentioned the woosh of a passing, i hear a woosh, well, more like a pssssss sound, and its my intake, sucking in gallons of air to feed my turbo spanker

well when i heard the woosh of him flying by me. i couldnt even make out what it was cuz he past me so fast! plus the sound of the 1.8 climbing the rpms to death and like loud as hell. i have yet to hear a psssssss sound past me... never raced a turbo in my 1.8 (haha u kidding me) nor did i ever lose to a turbo in my TSI. (shows that there arent many AT ALL turbos around here) cept for that one. but we sounded exactly alike so i didnt hear anything. but all others.. 1.8 Turbos VW, 2.2 Turbo Mx6, 80's Turbo 300z, 1.8(?) Turbo Dodge Spirit.
None yet to pass me. :D and im stock and proud:USA: that's until i get some money... lol

could have been a crappy working awd a/t that had a boost leak

i've had ZERO problem running down n/t's on the few occasion's we've clashed.

I cant even rev my car past 5000rpm due to an awful stumble and I still raped an N/T from a 40 roll. Not saying I dont believe you, but there must have been something horribly wrong with that thing. My old N/T vs. my poorly running TSi would still be an absolute slaughter.

I completely agree... there's a Laser RS turbo around here that rapes mustangs and all he has is a Greddy Type S BOV, (of course all the mustangs that race him are stock hillbillies that are closeminded and think everything imported drives like a honda civic DX) but it's fun when some of my friends (those hillbillies mentioned above) meet me at a party and ask me why they got their ass handed to them by a 4 cylinder import :D

Buut.. I'm still glad I beat the Celica.. I had riden in it before and I was kinda scared @ first because it did seem to have a bit more pull to it than mine.. Once again good looks prevail :D haha

well, this thing was a tsi front wheel drive 5 speed., but the times i rode with this guy, i wasnt impressed by his shifting abilities, i mean, in a 1/4 mi stop go race against a 6cly 5speed probe, he got his ass blasted, and it was just an 6cly, no turbo or nothing, so hmmmm.... i bet i could drive it better,

anyways,
my next car is probably a turbo talon, or a 3000gt
or mabye a honda civic i hear they are mad fast bling bling

all I have to say is that my GF has a 98 eclipse GS with a K&N, and the top end is completely shit. If you think your 97 GS "pulls like a freight train", then you have never been in anything remotely fast.
