is there a way to disable the speed limiter on a 2g GS-T spyder? other than getting the ECU reprogrammed?

also is getting the ECU reprogrammed a worthy (cost effictive) upgrade?

yes there is...i did it to mine even thou i dont plan on doing top speed runs, remove limiter just click the Removing the 2G FWD Speed Limiter link

130 sounds fast untill your neck and neck with a 2002 Mustang GT on a tope end run and suddnely yer engine cuts and he creeps past you.. right as you were pulling away.. then.. it just pisses you off.

~133 mph not fast enough for you?
have you ever had a 2G fwd that fast?

i would suggest a chin spoiler of some sort first before you go disabling the speed limiter

umm i've gone 140mph on 17 here in NY, 5th gear @5,500, car was screaming, but it still felt like i was going 55. Keep in mind that I don't have a turbo.

It must have taken you a long time to his 140 in a non turbo car.

I found out the hard way that my car HAD a limiter.. It was the first day I got my car and I got on the interstate and kept the hammer down. All of a sudden it was like I hit a brick wall. I guess it cut fuel at the limiter. I quickly got rid of that problem though. You know, that makes no sense though. Why would mitsu put a limiter on their GS-T because of the stock tires being only rated for that speed, and not put a limiter on the GS with the same or worse tires? Can anyone confirm this?

I would say they did that because u all with the turbo cars are jus like people with alot of the amg or 600 class benz's for example that have 250-350hp and say 160-170 on the dash but only go are limited to 130. why u may ask? because when u have the power available you are more prone to using it supposedly. I guess it could be one of those psychological things; but then there are the porche gt2's(that or the gt4) that have 500hp and a top speed of 198 and say 200 on the dash or a vette zo6 w/ 200 on the dash and go 185. Ask the DOT cause they are the ones that make these silly rules anyways fo sho:mad:

Yea, it took me a little while, i dont remember how long but itd guess it was like 3 MAYBE 4 miles. N/T's suck. I had better tires, still only H's, but i trust Michelins over stockers any day. H rated is what? like 129 mph? what happens if u go 140? structural breakdown? Car was smooth as hell though, no wobble at all. I have no idea why mitsu did it, maybe my car had its removed or didnt have one at all?

H rated's can't handle the heat buildup at speeds higher than 130. Heat is the whole reason you have speed ratings.

Keep in mind that the tire doesn't stay perfectly round while you're driving on it. The contact patch and sidewall will flex where they contact the road. That flexing builds up heat in the tire. At higher speeds, you are rotating the tires faster... causing more flexing... which causes more heat buildup... eventually to the point that the tire cannot shed the heat quickly enough and the compound starts to break down. Flexing & heat buildup are the reason why underinflated tires are so dangerous - an underinflated tire flexes a lot more than normal, and at any significant speed it will build up a lot of heat & run the risk of blowout.

H rated might hold up to a short blast over 130, but they're not made for sustained speeds over 130.

i don't know about the whole speed limiter thing

i was out last night and just decided to do a high speed run.
(the fastest i ever went was 137 w/boostaddicted in the car. i got a little scared and shut it down-not wanting to hit the limiter)
got on it at about 80 and it pulled all the way till like 130. the car seemed like it started to slowly run out of breath (pull less) and then it just kept pulling all the way to about 145+. i was thinking there was no way i went that fast and the stupid speedomoter wasn't accurate, but i am pretty sure i hit 145+ w/o any removal of the speed limiter and no fuel cut or anything. i was both confused and pleasently surprised.

i won't do it again on my tires though...just tempting fate

a good start is buying a coffin...and a tombstone...then you can do all speed limiter crap

92s don't have a speed limiter. Only 2G FWD TURBO cars have a 130mph speed limiter - no other DSM has one.

if im not mistaken i believe the apex'i rev/speed meter is capable of removing the limiter
No, an apex rev/speed meter can't do anything about the 2G FWD speed limiter. The rev/speed meter is just a gauge (or a useless piece of shit, depending on how you feel about dumb gadgets). The speed limiter is in the ECU.

If you have a 2G FWD and want to get rid of the 130mph limiter, look at http://www.dsm.org/how-tos/speedlimiter.htm (which I found under www.vfaq.com / miscellaneous).

Another question that can be answered by looking at vfaq.com and dsm.org - I wonder when people will start looking there first.

I've had the speed limiter mod on my GST Spyder for a few years now and it works great. Granted, I don't exceed 130 MPH very often but have been over 150 MPH in the car to date. Things happen very qucikly at this speed.

Make sure the tires are rated for the speeds you may go (I prefer ZR rated) or the risk factor will increase significantly.

Suspension and brakes will help save you from trouble as well--especially brakes, don't find out the hard way.

Speed responsible.
