i was considering a 16g on my 2nd gen AWD, but after talkin to some people, i've actually heard some good reveiws aobut the 14b on 2nd gens. eventually i would liek to get a 16g and , as i understand it , they use the same install kit, so swapping them shouldnt be a problem. also , (i know this is gonna start some falmes) what do you guys think of starion FMIC? honestly i wnat mid to low 13's. give me some input please.........

I put a 14B on my 2G and I can vouch for the fact it makes a HUGE difference. I was unsure of my upgrade path, but I knew it'd involve some sort of Mitsubishi turbo, so the install kit will transfer. You can even, if you so desire, put a Small 16G into a 14B's exhaust housing.

Starion ICs are not effecient at all. You can get the inlet/outlet pipes upgraded to 2.25" and it's a bit better, but still not as good as a true FMIC, then again it's better than a sidemount. Your better off getting a MKIV Supra Sidemount.

I don't know about a Starion IC, I don't have any experience with one. But, I did have a 14b on my Spyder, and loved it. It was a great turbo, spooled very fast, and the power compared to a T25 is a night and day difference. A 14b is a great option for someone on a budget considering they can be found for barely over $100, then you can go with a 16G down the road when money becomes available. I know of a few 1G AWD's that ran mid-high 12's on 14b's all day, so mid 13's shouldn't be a problem.

yeah i heard awsome stuff about the 14b, i'm probably gonna buy one that needs some rebuilding, and get it rebuilt. i think TRE does good rebuilding work. should i get any sort changes/mods done to it? i figure i can spend 600 on 16g from someone off of dsmtrader, or a can spend $100 for a 14b and $300 on getting it rebuilt to my specifications. could i use the stock 450s on the 14b?

I"m very confused witht is whole starion FMIC delema. i've heard that it's a good mod and cheap. ($300 as opposed to $1000). i wnat to stay away from side mounts, but popular beleif on DSMtalk is that they totally suck.

You can use 450's with 14b especially since your base fuel pressure is about 5 or 6 psi more than 1g, so you will actually see 450, not 410 or so like 1gs do with stock fuel pressure. You will want to rewire fuel pump however.

Yes you can use 450s on the 14b (1Gs do all the time :D). You should get it ported and then a larger wastegate flapper installed.

Well the reason why people here say they suck is because Supra Sidemount ICs are so cheap and they're many times more efficient than Starion ICs. There are, unfortunately, no hard numbers on the flow rates for stock Starion ICs (I'll call them SICs because I'm lazy) as apposed to SICs with upgraded inlet/outlet piping. If you picked up a late model SIC and upgraded the inlet/outlet to 2.25", you'd have a decent setup, especially for the money. That being said, for the same amount of money, you could get a Supra SMIC and have it support most everything a 16G can put out.

Though, I must say, a nice FMIC does look mighty nice :)

thanks for all the feed back guys.............it's much appreciated.

Yup, I have a 14B on my 2G and a Supra I/C :D They work great. The 14B has a load more top end than the T-25. Of course you sacrifice some of the instant T-25 boost response but it's well worth the trade. Easy install. You barely have to bend the water lines. The hacker kit from RRE is really nice. The pipes and couples are top notch. You get a SS oil line too.

The Supra I/C worked great too. Keeps the I/C pipes nice and cold. I hit fuel cut for the first time the night I installed it :)

Good luck with the project.

I put a 14B in my car. If you can find one that is already rebuilt or in great working order like the one I bought, buy it. There is always at least one on ebay at any time. I put it in and love it. The dang thing can hold really high PSI to redline, even when it happens by accident. :p

I used the RRE install kit and highly suggest it. I wasn't at all bothered with the price. It saves you from having to gather a whole buch of parts together. Made the install very smooth.

A word to the wise: If you plan on putting that thing on a 3in or even 2.5in exhaust, get the O2 housing ported, the WG area and hole ported, and get the 34mm WG flapper. I upgraded to a full 3in after my 14B was in and the dang thing loves to scream up to 22psi with no hesitation. I have slowly been able to get the damn thing back down almost to an area where my fuel can support it, but it is not in control yet. Hopefully, my TRE ported 7cm^2 housing w/ 34mm flapper can get her back under control.

Tip: The oil feed line for the T-25 is stubborn and stupid. Just get some vice grips and clamp those bastards down hard on the fitting where it goes into the Oil Filter Housing. Twist really hard to losen and you'll end up twising the tube apart. It doesn't matter because RRE gave you a new one and god knows what the old one had stuck in it anyway.

Oh yeah, thanks for reminding me. I forgot to mention that you should definitely port it before you install it. I ported the hell out of it (including the wastegate hole) and installed a 34mm flapper. I get zero creep :)

fuel cut sucks, i dont want it, i guess i'm gonna have to dish out some extra money for a AFC and injectors huh.......................

I got nothing but love for my 14b. It came with the car and is very nice. The turbo is almost perfect for anyone who wants to run 13's.

That being said later down the line forced performance can turn your 14b into a big 16g for under 500 dollars.

The 14B by no means needs a Super AFC. I didn't hit puel cut until about 5 seconds into 22psi at WOT. (scary, scary fuel cut) Even though every car is different, you should have no problem running high PSI with the 14B with stock MAS and ECU and stuff.

thanks rob, you had my wallet worrying for a moment there. so now all i need to do is find a starion FMIC and get the end tanks modded , and i'll be good to go (i know somoene is gonna flame me for that last line, eh well )

I'm sure your car could run 13's easily w/ the 14b upgrade without the starion i/c....upgrading the t-25 will make the biggest difference in power. I have a starion i/c on my car. It was kind of alot of work putting it all together...and there really wasn't much seat of the pants improvement in power. If all you really want is 13's i wouldn't go through the hassle of the starion ic. Of course once you start running low 13's you'll find yourself wanting 12's...then 11's....and so on.:)

I'll jump on the bandwagon here and chime in with the same response as everyone else. The 14b is by far the best mod/upgrade/repair I've done to my car. It feels great, pulls great and the power doesnt fall off. It's certainly a good turbo for a 2g and it makes you feel like you are driving a new car once again.

It's sorta funny isn't it? We're all so excited and happy with the STOCK 1G turbo. :D

in all due respect, the T25 isnt THAT bad. now this could be my lack of experince with other turbos on a DSM , but the t25 isn't given enough credit. it's quick , not fast. it's nice to have a quick spooling turbo . it's agreed that it could use soem more balls in the higher up revs. oh well, now i get to look forward to the 14b 2nd gen club. this guy is offering me $100 shipped from 14b with very little shaft play? what do you guys think, am i in?
