Alright, so this happened the other night on my way back from seeing The Lord of the Rings: the two towers...My brother and I were leaving the movie theater in his girlfriend's 99 Grand Am GT 4-door, and we were cruising up on a white 95 TSi. My brother's always loved to race, and me being a DSM owner, wanted to see just how fast a TSi was up against a GM. We got to a redlight just before the highway, and I told him to race it. Cruising along, completely bald tires and all, we passed him at about 80, and then continued to accelerate to about 95 before he started to make his run to pass us on the right. We got up to about 115, and he was just barely keeping up, still behind by about half a car length...As soon as we hit 120, still ahead and he was falling behind, we had to slow down to switch lanes and get on an exit. It was pretty cool, and I was shocked to see how slow the TSi was. If your turbo DSM is slower than a 4 door Grand Am, you have problems...;)

Ummmm, your saying you passed him at 80 (meaning he was going less than 80, mmm maybe 70???), continued to accelerate to 95 (while he's still doing 70???), then he hit it (made it up to 1/2 car length of you), and he then shut down at 115, so you continued to speed up at 120, to finish your kill?

Good job, you just posted a ricer flyby, by the way he obviously caught up and decided it wasn't worth anymore gas. I'm not standing up for him here, I could care less if he actually lost, but try to keep the facts strait.;)

I love how angry people get at kill stories posts, lol. That's cute...Anyway, he had more than enough time to pass us, but he couldn't...he tried, and couldn't, you could tell he was trying, it's not like we really FLEW by him when we passed him the first time, and we didn't speed up to 95 till he started trying to make his pass, so that's my bad in story telling. And who said he "shut down at 115"? I don't recall saying that at all, so you need your facts "strait";) You're being way too analytical here...the fact is, his automatic TSi wasn't as fast as a GM.

Ah well, I really didn't care after seeing how you fairly initiated a race and all. Auto/Stick doesn't really matter, he could have had a blown turbo for all I care. Like I said before I don't care if he could have won or not. I'm just trying to get you to write a little bit clearer (or just film it next time, vids are always cool).

I don't see where I sound angry either :blah: If he decided to start late to show you his top end and got "owned" from a late start, thats his problem then. Thats why its fun to go 2 or 3 times, just to make sure each drive had there best and to really see what the cars can do (figuring each screws up, but the cars get to be driven right at least once)

Here have a first place trophy:tree:

thanks buddy! I'm sure that was sarcastic, but oh well. Sorry if I seemed like a dick, I just see it as a race being a race, and I don't analyze it, whoever wins wins, and that's the way it is, cuz there's no way I could have known what he was thinking. Anyway, it was the first time I was in a race with my bro driving since he totaled his beautiful beautiful beretta, which in fact ran a 14.4 1/4 before. God I loved that car...now THAT thing could haul ass, got up to about 140 really fast, GM owners owe a lot to chip manufacturers:p

from a high roll the ram air 3.4L ga's are suppose to pull harder than a stock awd. Especially a 2g with the t25 becoming inefficient(sp?) at the 125+ area.

I thought ram air was an option (after base GT), don't know if this or not. Either way, you are right that the guy did bite the hook, or maybe he just caught up and kept pace to see what the ga could do:p

The infamous clutch slip my come into play. My friends TSi AWD could get totally owned by a Geo right now because his clutch slips so bad. Hit the gas, revs climb........... car goes nowhere.

same with my clutch right now....but tomoorow a ACT goes in.... mmmm

ram-air grand am gt's are not "fast" by any definition when compared to a turbo dsm. when I had my 16 sec turd firebird i used to race one that would SLOWLY pull from me, from a stop to 60 he wasn't even ahead a carlength.

I'm sorry, but what a complete ricer move. You FLEW by, then called a win cuz he couldnt catch up after you had momentum and speed on your side?!

all GM are limited to 104. i used to work at a chevy dealer and know that for a fact... excluding some cars such as corvette and camero
Well, sounds like you've spotted a major flaw in this whole story. Sounds like some BS. What about the GTP?? That can't be limited to 104 right?

informed incorrectly

Sorry, but not ALL GM's are set to shut off at 104...my friend's 97 Cavalier doesn't shut off till 110, so don't even say they shut off at 104 when I've seen him hit 110 time and time again, and my other friend has a 97 Sunfire GT 5spd, and he shuts off at 110, but with his emergency lights on, he can hit 115. Trust me, the car does over 104, I'm not making this up...and I may not have been 100% correct about the exact speeds, I was just glancing over, and the dashes on those are pretty weird, and driver oriented, so I could be off by a few, but I know I saw the needle go over 110, trust me on that one...And I'll bet if I had a TSi and beat someone in a GM, nobody would say anything about the ricer fly by thing, I was just posting a story that I thought was kinda funny, so everyone just chill out a bit.;)

the subject was 99 and above. thats when the federal goverment made auto manufactures lower their speed limiters due to the amount of high speed accidents and idiot that like to drive that fast on a public street or HWY. its not hard to disable the speed limiter all you have to do is disconnect a wire that tells the computer how fast the car is going. the puter doesnt know how fast the car is goin then there is no cut off. my brother has a 2000 or 2001 (not sure) cavalier z24 and it wont go over 104. he has 18s on it so the speedo stop at 94 cause the difference in tire size to factory.

Okay, so I just talked to my brother, and he told me it IS a 99. And my friend sitting next to me has driven the car several times, and knows for a fact that it doesn't shut off at 104, so someone's making a mistake, because all these people that have driven it at higher speeds than that have no reason to lie about it. Well, I'm gonna go pass out nowzzzz
