Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Okay heres the problem, I just changed the oil sending unit because I wasnt reading any oil pressure and everyone on here said it was that so I Replaced it with a new one that I got from an auto parts store around here and it said it was for a SOHC but I decided to try it. It fit and everything but I still have no oil pressure readout. How do I check if I even have oil pressure? And what can I do about the oil gauge not reading anything?

Pull the plug off of the sender and use a jumper to ground the plug. This should drive the gauge full scale. If it doesn't then the problem lies in the gauge, wiring , or maybe no power is going to the gauge.

Also on my horn if I leave the relay in the horn goes off constantly and you car hear it click evrytime you put the relay in. Is the a certain spot the wire grounds itself on these. Also it looks like the previous owner installed a different horn because he spliced into the wires. Also how would I go about fixing this problem? Its not the relay because I tried a different one and same thing happened. Where should I check first?

whats an easy place to place the jumper wire? Preferrably close to the sending unit.
The current flow is from the gauge, through the underhood wire to the sender and then to ground. So how much resistance the sender produces determines the gauge reading. So, by pulling the plug at the sender and grounding the plug, the sender is out of the circuit. Just ground the wire to any handy metal.

Well heres what happened today, I didnt get a chance to ground the wire but when I turned the key to ON with the car still off the oil pressure gauge goes up all the way on the gauge. And after I start the car it slowly goes down. Is it the sender the gauge or what? Someone help. Also someone help me with my horn problem.

if your car doesnt make a shit load of lifter noise when you start it up and idle for ummmm....... about 10 seconds then you have oil pressure.. you KNOW when you dont have oil pressure! it sounds like your motor is ........ dead.

Two sending units

I am not sure if this will help your oil pressure issue or not but here goes. I had this same issue with my '91 AWD Talon. I replace the sending unit that the local parts store gave me any my book showed and still didn't have any pressure. I then looked through my Haynes manual real well and found that there are two sending units for my car. The second one is close to the first one and I think they have the same wiring. The second one is totally different looking. It screws straight up into the engine about 6 to eight inches farther towards the back of the car than the other sensor. I went to the local NAPA and they didn't show a listing or have a similar sensor so luckily I had a spare one that worked. You may have to go to a dealer if this sensor is bad. There is a picture of both of them on pg. 2B-5 of the Haynes manual for a 90-94 TEL's. If you really need a picture let me know and I can take one and send it to you.
Good luck,
Garth

your right.. the're both on the filter mount. one is the idiot light and the other is for the gauge. the sending unit for the gauge is towards the rear. the one you can see from the driver's fender well by the crank pully.

Well the one I replaced is the one where the oil filter is located. There has to be a short somewhere because it caused my horn and this to go( horn stays on and oil pressure at zero.) When I turn the key to ON not start then the gauge goes all the way up, and then down to zero when I turn the key to START. On aftermarket oil pressure gauges does it require to use the same wire that is on the sending unit? If so then I will just get a aftermarket one. On the horn how would I rig that up so I can still use it. One wire from the steering wheel and where would the other wire from the horn go to? Im lost when it comes to electrical crap.

Oil sensor

Did your horn start working wrong after you put the new sensor on or did this start happening the same time your oil pressure gauge failed in the first place? If it happened after you replaced the sensor with the new one, I would put the old one back on. Then replace the sensor toward the back. This is the second one that works your gauge. From what the other post by Toolvw stated, the sensor a little further back than the one you replaced is the one that worked the gauge. The gauge is about 1.5 inches around and about 1" thick. It screw up into the oil housing about 6 to 8 inches away from the first sensor. It also has a single wire running to it. Like I said, your local auto stores probably don't have it on their parts list. You may have to go to a dealer with it in hand to show them on their computer. I am not real familiar with electrical stuff either. I guess that the horn has a ground at the steering wheel and then a wire that goes to the horn and this is also the power wire. If you need anymore help, let me know.

Looking in my '92 service manual (yeah, I know, you have a 2gen but this is the best I can do) I see that after the fuse box under the dash the wire for the gauge and the wire for the horn have nothing in common. Maybe on the 2gens they are in the same bundle. You need a wiring diagram. Hopefully some good soul will scan and e-mail you one.

Okay I checked both sets of wires going to the sending unit for the gauge and the light, and they are both good. It has to be a short or something somewhere but where could it be? Also does anyone know if I can just run a single wire from the gauge sending unit to the gauge in the dash? Will that work? Also does anyone know which wire it is on the gauge cluster for the oil gauge?
