Helllooo fellow DSMers!! That's right ladies and gents...Slipspeed is back from the desert! I'm sure many of you don't remember me and several more just don't care, sooo...on to my racing related subject:

Last night I got into San Antonio after traveling over 24 hours on four flights from Saudi Arabia. I'm tired and hungry for some American food so a bunch of us roll to Applebees in my sister's 99 Civic Ex and her friends 96 Accord. I'm riding in the back of the civic (holding on for dear life because my sister is a maniac..blah blah...) and I look out the window to see a 3G Eclipse pull up next to our friend's 96 Accord. To my knowledge, the Accord has several bolt ons but no serious work (ie upgraded fuel, internals etc). I couldn't see any mods for the 3G.

The light turns green and after a slight chirp on the wheels (pathetic burnout perhaps??) the Accord and 3G are off. It's a sllooowwww race (if you can even call it that) and I see that the Accord is pulling little by little on the 3G! I was pretty sure it was the 6cyl Eclipse but who knows. The 3G pulls off for a turn but at the last minute I can see out the back window that he is turning back onto the main road. The accord falls back and we lose sight of them for a minute.

Hwy410 opens up to 4 lanes and as we crest a bridge I can see the two cars behind us side by side again. The painstakingly creep by and I can see the accord is nudging by the 3G. I check my sisters speedo and she is clocking 75mph so these guys were going well over 90. The 3G never left the Accord behind! I was sure that the extra two cylinders would come to his advantage at the higher speed but it was just sad! I haven't done much research on the 3G's but apparantly they have trouble holding their own...tsk tsk tsk. Do we even consider the 3G's part of DSMs??

RN
96 TSi POS That still has f@#&%$@#( Crankwalk!!!!!

Hey slipspeed, I remember you. How was Saudi Arabia? Where did you stay? I used to live there for about 2 years a while back -- my father was assigned there for a defense contract. Our stay was truncated by the Gulf War, though.

Welcome home, and uh, good kill, even though it wasn't yours. :D

Saudi just plain sucked. I'm not allowed to divulge my location or any specifics of our mission. To do so would mean I would have to track everyone down on the list and...eliminate them... I don't want to do that :)

I was restricted to a very, very, small base in the middle of nowhere and the only drag racing we did was with Government GMC six packs...they did have 350s under the hood though... Got a couple of em sideways in the dirt too...

I'm just glad to be back in a land that doesn't perpetually stink and I don't have to dig dust out of the crack of my a** every ten seconds!

I think I'm gonna take my sisters Civic out tonight and spank..er..that is..try not to get spanked at the races. Hmmm, waddya say my chances are?

What's up slipspeed I just registered this month so I don't remember you. However, I do live in San Antonio! Glad to know that I'm not the only one. I'm sorry to hear that your car became infected with the dreaded crankwalk! What milage and what mods do you have? My car is in the shop right now also but that's because I got rear ended by a school bus! It's been six weeks now. Every now and then, me and my black TSi can be found at military and River city race way. If you ever see a black 97 tsi with a white windshield banner that says "RACESPEED" thats me!

Hmm...

I don't suppose you considered the idea that it may have been the 4-cylinder engine in the 3g Eclipse? Both the GS and the RS have a 147-hp (140hp if it's an auto)2.4L 4-banger with 158 ft/lbs of torque. Not a lot of power for a car that weighs 2800-3000 lbs (Again, depending on stick or auto). :)

Nice arguement but even the V6 GTs are slow! Several have tried to race me and none have ever come close. I also think your weight (2800-3000) is off because they are bigger and heavier than the 2nd gen! I'm sorry if you are a fan of the 3rd gen but when you make a car heavier and give it less power, I jump off of the wagon!

Nice to know there are some peeps in San Antonio!

The weather has been pretty crappy! I was hoping to go to the drags tonight. I'll be rollin in my sisters silver 99Civic...don't laugh. My Talon is on the island of Guam. I'm one of the few DSM owners keepin the scene alive on that miserable chunk of coral! Sorry to hear about your car...DAMN a school bus??

I'm just going to have to state bluntly that the 3G's suck! Has anyone seen one with the Turbo kit on it yet?

Count me in

I've seen a new Eclipse with basic bolt-ons (intake/exaust) and a nitrous shot go against a 13 second Rustang and almost(imagine) beat it too. HKS has a turbocharged one on display at Nopi but it was never stated how much power it makes.

It's a shame that most of the Eclipse line up is being sold to girls who point their finger and say "daddy, that car is pretty". When I catch up to a 2g on the road, 90% of the time it's a college girl singing along with the radio, not an eager enthusiast with an aftermarket list a mile long. No wonder that Mitsubishi Motors won't make a turbo. They would rather make one with V6 to give you a comfortable cruise on the freeway while you commute to college with an automatic transmission and extra cupholders for people on the back seat. It's a girlie shoremobile.

And until a pro shop will make one run 10's on 1320, sign me into the 3g-hating club. Sorry if I hurt somebody's feelings.

Nitrox+FATTY

Nitrox- You're partly right when it comes to females owning a majority of 2nd gen cars. However, when it comes to ownership of turbo cars, males have the majority. I hate to see a stock turbo car! Several Have tried to race me and it almost hurts when I spank them.

FATTY- I only know one thing about 3rd gen performance, IT BLOWS! The only way I would jump on the 3rd gen bandwagon is if they offered a turbo V6 and AWD! That would be a cool car! You never know what will happen after the WRX gets here. I plan on buying a WRX in a year after seeing how the after market molests these cars to make them more fun!

Mitsubichin if she had a car just like yours how would you beat her? Better driver? Was hers a Turbo or a N/A? And What is your car?

I gotta agree here with Craig. Sure, you guys have your opinions about the 3G,
but the V6 has some decent power. It is pulling around 3000 lbs. :D
I find it hard to believe that a 96 Accord was hanging with a 3G GT... unless the
Accord had some crazy mods in it.

if

if the accord was a v6 with a manual tranny in it, I could see it being a close race. The auto versions hit 60 in 7.6 and the 5 spds are 7.1. They both hit the 1/4 around the same time sooooo
i'd say it would be who is the better driver.

my eclipse

Let's clear up some of the hear say. My 2000 GT ran 15.3's bone stock, it's a California Emmisions model, Fedrals can run 14.9's-15.2's stock. I now run 15.0's@92.X MPH with a 2.28 60' time. The cars are not as "slow" as some of you would care to belive, there is a guy in Arizona hitting 14.5's off of intake and exhaust, pretty impressive for a NA V-6 hauling around 3053 pounds. And here is a link that will make ya think!
